I know this has been said many times before and every TMS doctor says it, but sometimes I am stubborn: Don’t always assume that a new pain or symptom is TMS – have your doctor check it out!

I started having a tingling, burning sensation in my feet and since others mentioned this on the forum I just assumed it was TMS. After many months I finally gave in and went to the doctor.

Turns out it was caused by diabetes and I could have prevented it from becoming as severe a problem if I had gone to the doctor sooner. Now I have to take medicine everyday so that this foot-burning doesn’t keep me awake at night.

Live and learn.
Kelvin

Ouch. I hope that you at least don't need the needles.

I definitely feel like my TMS is very "opportunistic" like that. It grabs on to things that already have some reason for hurting and then tries to make it so that they never "heal"... which they don't unless I somehow "call it's bluff" and say that I'm going to just ignore the pain. Then it often just goes away in a couple of days...

Completely new. I didn't know I had it until I went to the doctor and he did the blood test. Apparently it affects everyone differently. My brother has diabetes and he has never had the foot pain.

I really thought it was just TMS because I seemed to be able to reduce the pain by journaling and other TMS exercises. And, who knows, really? It might be a combination. TMS can do that - use anything available to cause distraction.

Hi Kelvin,

Thank you so much for this post. Such an important lesson, and one that Dr. Sarno also emphasizes.

I'm sorry to hear about your new medical situation. Is the diabetes completely new or did you already have diabetes and it is just the foot symptoms that are new?
