Posted - 10/02/2009 : 12:35:22 Today I made up my mind not to let my TMS symptoms keep me at home. I am currently taking some classes at the University close by. Walking has been an extreme problem for me over the past year but especially within the lat week or so. I am experiencing TMS symptoms in my left calf muscle that feel like I am being stabbed. Not that I have ever been stabbed fortunately. My husband just had hip replacement surgery..(another story another post) so I took his handicap sticker for the car with me, hoping to find a parking space close to the building where my class was. ( I am ashamed..people shouldn't use other peoples stickers)..No luck..I had to park about a mile away from class. I walked to class with very little problem. Just a little ache. Class was two hours and I was totally absorbed. Walking back to my car was almost impossible. The pain was excruciating. I was offered a ride to the parking lot by one of my classmates who saw me stumbling my way along. I refused ,determined to get there on my own..hoping for a miracle resolution to my pain. Alas, no such luck. I will not quit ,but just exactly how long does an acute attack last? Marsha |

I don't know how you (and skizzik, too) can "ignore the pain" the way you have done. I would be incapable of doing that. I'm a total wimp when it comes to pain.
I wonder, do you ever sit down and spend time giving yourself empathy and compassion?

Posted - 10/02/2009 : 14:09:52 I do take Advil or Aleve , sometimes Aspirin. Real serious pain killers (prescription medication) puts me to sleep or fogs up my brain so that functioning isn't an option. Marsha |

Posted - 10/02/2009 : 13:22:12 Well, it's different for everyone, but for me, when I was laid up with an extreme back spasm it lasted for about a week or two, then very gradually got better. It would happen instantly, but take a while to resolve.
Have you tried painkillers to take the edge off when you are doing something physical? |
