I think you're even being kind to the health care system in the US !!

It is what it is though ..... something different to everyone you ask. I think it's a mess. A financial success ...... a patient failure.

There comes a point when $$$ becomes g-o-d, that life becomes a black hole of emptiness. Emptiness makes us sick. Go to a doctor and tell him your woes and he'll hook you up to the latest high dollar machine and tell you with the precision of an auto mechanic that "we don't diagnose chronic issues..... we just fix you when your body breaks".

It's not just the health care industry though . . . it's our society that is failing. Life has become so fast we cannot fully digest the present moment. Our goals become the future . . . .our present becomes the past. It's a big squeeze.

I recently went to see a specialist MD. I had an Ultrasound done. Despite clearly defined physical swelling.... the doctor could tell me no more about what it was than what the Ultrasound told him it was. The irony is.... the ultrasound's parameters don't account for the swelling. His words were "I don't know what it is...... but we can do surgery for you". Surgery? ..... for what? ..... he didn't know what it was? Dumba$$. We only have two such "specialists" where I live and they are both surgery happy. No surgery for me... unless it's to save my life.

For this I waited for 90 minutes past my appointed time.... and was billed a healthy(for them) amount. I came out feeling like I was a meat popsicle.. . . . there to be consumed by the health care industry as fuel for their bottom line$ .

The only solution I know is to go within to clear a path heal...... because no one is doing it for me. Even then ... there's no guarantees. This pisses my ego off. . . . it wants more pain . . . more misery . . . more conflict. My ego doesn't like the mirror . . . .and surely can't stand the light. . . . the light of the universe . . .god . . or whatever term for the source of creation may be.

I wonder what a world would be like where we are taught as children listen within . Then again . . . I think children come into the world this way and the neurotic society won't let them stay that way unless one is exceptional .

I hear you SarnoFan, much of America's HC system is a racket through and through. On the other hand, Canada can afford a nice government system with her small population and rich natural resources. I think there could be a happy medium somewhere. It's too bad it's gotten too polarized these days that it seems most folks are unwilling to meet in the middle anymore.

This cartoon hit a nerve in me: I really miss socialized medicine.
I have been in the US for almost ten years and have enjoyed the excellent private health insurance paid by my husband's employer.
HOWEVER, I used to live in Canada where I NEVER paid a penny for healthcare, and yet I also never experienced poor quality health care! Sure...if my healthy son tore a ligament in Canada during his sport he would wait (maybe) a little longer for an MRI and surgery compared to the 24 hr turnaround on the MRI and surgery in a week here.
HOWEVER....I find the profit motive can cloud a surgeon or doctor's opinions. I had visited doctors in Canada the last time I had "TMS" symtpoms and they all very diplomatically told me there's nothing wrong with me after running ALL THE TESTS. One suggested psychotherapy and the other told me to "get back on my horse" after "falling off". In hindsight I see that they were the most intuitive, selfless doctors who saw the "whole" person. Don't get me wrong, I know no one's perfect. There are good and bad doctors everywhere. No system is perfect, but I think the healthcare system here is ridiculous and profit driven too much by the drug and insurance companies at the expense of sensible healthcare. All those depression and fibromyalgia ads on TV drive me nuts. Why "ask your Doctor" for that drug on TV? If he is any good at diagnosing you, he will prescribe the right treatment so you shouldn't need to "ask" for it!!

When I was struck with TMS symptoms here in the USA for the second time nine years later...I saw more than 4 different specialists and they ALL had a perfect diagnosis and treatment ($$$) for me that fit exactly with their specialty.
No wonder the USA spends double the amount per capita on healthcare than any other advanced society in the world...yet its citizens live the least number of years and have the highest infant mortality rate of all these advanced countries (see the W.H.O. website for the stats).
If you are a hypochondriac with money or good private insurance, then our health system in the US is the best in the world. If you have a REAL disease but no health insurance...well sorry, you are out of luck. Even with health insurance, in the best case scenario, you will lose your life's savings in co-pays! So where is this money really going? Why are people being "overdiagnosed"?
Sorry about the venting. We moved to the US to save on income taxes...but in the end there is no free lunch.
I have lived in both systems and can really "feel" the difference. Wouldn't it be nice if doctors here made more money on preventative, sensible medicine instead of costly "treatments"?
I am rambling, sorry again. I am sure there are good arguments on both sides. Just wanted to let both sides know how it has been in my experience.
