Posted - 09/04/2009 : 22:15:33 A TMS equivalent is anxiety and I have suffered almost every 'anxiety symptom' over my lifetime. I recall a period when I used to be jolted awake at 3 am. Thinking back, I have no clue how it started or exactly when/how it ended.
I do know that I just tried not to obsess or worry about it. If you go to bed worried that "it will happen again", it probably will. I just changed my routine a bit to 'break' this conditioning. I started to enjoy a hot cup of chamomile tea (no sugar/honey) at bedtime; focused on reading neutral material (business, decor, etc.) and fell asleep nicely. Sometimes I awoke at 3am, sometimes not.
When I did wake up, I tried not to fret about it. I just went and made chamomile tea again, started reading and fell asleep again. It has not happened again for over a year now. I actually forgot about this until I read your post.
This can also have to do with hormonal changes, life changes and new stresses. I would still deal with it the same way.
Hope this helps! |
