I was washing my floors on my hands and knees using my right hand when it all of a sudden I got a sharp shooting pain into my wrist and pinky side of my hand.
I kept on with my day...noticing it only hurt at specific times (certain ways I bent my hand etc) and last night when I got in bed it didn't stop hurting until I went to sleep.
Woke up twice in the night to use the bathroom..no pain. Got up for the day...MAJOR pain. It hasn't stopped since.
I am seriously freaked out b/c this isn't some dull ache...like my other tms symptoms have been. This is sharp shooting and seriously painful. I was doing NOTHING to precipitate this pain....no exercises not lifting anything heavy...nothing.
Interestingly enough it's on the same side as the chronic elbow pain I have managed to ignore and live with for 6 months.
Couple things: My husband always thinks there is something wrong with me...(something DOES always seem to happen to me) and he nad my son are coming home from FL today so I am trying to cover this up so as to avoid hearing more judgement, I am getting a mole removed today and am nervous about it AND I was bit by tick Saturday but have no visible rash. Not sure if anything is connected...just really looking for some insight to calm me down.

You too crk...I had two great workouts in a row last night and tonight despite the wrist pain and foot pain and everything else...I felt my wrist "tweak" tonight doing triceps and I was like "Hell NO you aren't doing this to me!"
I told my husband...you know..through all of my health anxiety and tms symptoms over all these years...I have NEVER stopped exercising. Never.
Even when I fractured my foot and hopped into the house to call for a ride to the orthopedic..the first thing I said to him after he said "walking cast" was "when can I get back on the road with my bike?"
He said "rdie all you want...INSIDE so you don't accidentally come out of the clip wrong on that bike on the road etc and injure it worse!"
So I hopped on the bike the next morning IN the basement on a trainer...and have been going ever since.
I think that is one reason I am not crippled by TMS...I have only given in 50% to this crap!
So there TMS ...take that.

No, I don't have health anxiety. I have people/world anxiety. lol I recently saw (on this forum) the recommendation for the book, "What to Say When You Talk To Yourself." I got it from the library and have been reading it this week. Although I am not really enjoying the book (I find his style to be over-explaining and a little corny), I do think he is right and have decided to do a little of his program with my anxiety issue.

Hope you have a great weekend! :)

Interesting CRK...I never even thought about the possibility of the bone scan NOT being fractures...I did see new bone growth in all 3 areas on the last (number 9 or 10) x ray last week though...and on the previous x rays the area was obviosuly different so I am pretty sure (with the amount of pain when pressure was applied to those bones) that they were in fact fractured.
Your statements add a new dimension to my thinking though....
Was it you or someone else I saw that used to have health anxiety? I fall into that category for sure (but am learning not to define who I am with it!).
Thanks for your input..your posts are VERY helpful as I have been reading some of your older posts.

Hey Capn S! I hope to post more. I was recently thinking about how frustrating it is that so many people around me seem to have TMS but I cannot reach them. Then I realized that HERE is where I can be helpful. We all throw out our lifelines and one of them is bound to help someone. Be well! :)

This is great stuff! I love that... "Culture of Injury". You need to post here more often.

Well, I don't want to argue about what happened to your foot, but it reminds me of some information I must relate. If your foot showed fracture "hot spots" rather than actual breaks, those could have been no different than the ubiquitous, epidemic of "stress fractures" and "shin splints" which show up in just about every other runner I know. I myself had a bone scan that showed 3 of them in one leg. Those are what Sarno calls "normal bone abnormalities." They exist but do not cause pain; it's just more tms. Doctors do put casts on them just as doctors do countless back surgeries. That does not necessarily mean the injury is legitimate. Again, I am not saying this is what happened to you, but a lot of people read this forum looking for help and I want to make sure others know that "fractures" CAN appear and CAN mean nothing! Just like herniated discs can mean nothing.

The most convincing piece of evidence for me is your story about how you are feeling mentally. I do hope that you find out where the tms is coming from and feel relief soon. You deserve great happiness and a beautiful, peaceful life. :)

Hi cfhunter,

you were on your knees cleaning a floor ... you can hardly get more "submissive" than that, can you? Even though you probably saw this as a normal chore (which of course is just what it is), maybe your mind was resenting being submissive and getting angry to see you "on your knees" for the benefit of whom? Your husband? Family?

On top of that, you seem to be saying that your husband doesn't have much patience left for your medical "experiments" and your son neither! (I know exactly what you mean - every time I have a new "remedy" I see my family just sigh in exasperation and they really don't take me seriously anymore!) so rather than annoy them you won't go to a doctor this time. Again, this sounds like submetting yourself to others. Not something any woman likes to do these days!

So my feeling is maybe you have resentment around the issue of submission?

But it's just food for thought. My idea is based on reading about mind-body issues in the past. I'm very new to this TMS stuff so maybe from a TMS perspective I'm way off. So, this insight is worth what it's worth :-)

I have read every book Sarno has written and truly believe IN TMS...but I tell ya..I am a tough case as I am STUBBORN with a capital S and can talk myself into anything.
It's NOT a good quality. ha!
Thing is..I fractured my foot in 3 places recently and didn't have one bit of swelling ,redness or hot to touch....I let that go for 7 days and ran on it even. Ended up in a walking cast. So I do believe that you can have something seriously wrong with no outside evidence...which is really what makes this harder for my stubborn ass to move past!

It only hurts when I move it a certain way and I was telling my husband (who's training for a major sports event that taxes his body DAILY and never gets seriously hurt) how does someone get HURT cleaning the floors??!!! Seriously?
sigh.
So you are right...I need to sit down and get psychological.....I will do that and see where it takes me. Thank you for your support.

The hand is a great place to get a TMS pain! Why? Because you can see so much of it! It's not buried in your spine or deep inside some joint. Take a look there. Is it swollen? red? blue? Any visible symptoms at all? If no... (bell ringing) TMS! Real injuries are full of visible symptoms but we get so wrapped up in the Culture of Injury that we start thinking things are broken or hurt with every pain no matter how illogical. Shoot, even a splinter, which doesn't hurt that much, is going to have a little red area around it.

Here is another test. Say to yourself, "Just in case this is TMS, I'm going to sit down and list all the things that are bothering me right now." If the pain level goes up to 9 or 10 when you say this do the list, that's another big sign.

I hope you will start a Sarno program for this new pain. It sure sounds like TMS to me!

thanks..but that isn't working today and I can't see another doctor.
I feel my husband would leave me for good if I go to one more doc...(not really) but I don't need yet another health strain in my marriage.
:(

When things like that happen to me I give myself a good talking-to and it usually goes away. Sometimes it gets too much and I have to take some aspirin, but I carry on giving myself a good talking-to and it doesn't usually come back.

No harm in getting it checked out, though.
