If you have been applying Sarno's methods and they haven't worked, I have an alternative for you.

Give Sarno a break for a while.

Buy these 2 books, read them, and apply them:

1. "What to say when you talk to yourslef" by Shad Helmstetter
2. "The Power of the Subconscious Mind" by Joseph Murphy

I applied Sarno religiously for over a year and saw no improvement. I recently switched over to these approaches and these have worked quickly and completely, I no longer have my symptoms.

Try them and get back to me when you have cured yourself. I would love to hear about your recovery stories.

Bringing this back up to the top so John sees it when he revisits!

John... I had very good success re treating my headaches as TMS but had NO success at all with my diagnosed "burning tongue syndrome" so I would be very interested in hearing more about your success story and what you DID say when you started talking to yourself, seeing as I read all the details of your struggles since you started posting (!) thinking you might have Sjogren's etc, worried this was going to ruin your whole life, last for years, etc.

John...It's great to hear you are doing so well :) Thanks for the recommendations! There will soon be a library opening up right down the street from my house, so I've added those 2 books to my must read list.

Take care!

John, what you've discovered is that despite learning the theory behind mind-body pain - that isn't often enough. Our mental blueprint is to fear and expect the pain - so it remains. The books you spoke about are great for reprogramming that mental blueprint.

I also found that the reprogramming was necessary to find relief.

Way to go and thank you so much for sharing.

2. "The Power of the Subconscious Mind" by Joseph Murphy
Best book I've ever read, I'm thinking of ordering his healing tapes and he has one on fear too.

Great, John!
After how hard you have worked and how much you've wanted to be free of possible "sjrogen's (not sure how to spell it) this is truly great news. I assume you are back to kissing, drinking, socializing, and have "reclaimed your life"! ;o) Wonderful!

Would love to hear more specifically HOW you used these resources to effect your cure and look forward to reading your success story!!

My (head) pain symptoms resolved well with Sarno's methods, but I have never had success with my own "burning tongue syndrome" issues so would be very interested in hearing more about your recovery!

I second this helpful information! The types of concepts presented in those books are central to the work I ended up doing in my brain, too! If you're stuck with Sarno's concepts, read other resources, because there is so much helpful stuff out there! (I'm going to post my success story here eventually, when I get a chance!)

That's wonderful news, John!
I found the post from WebDan (one of the first to recommend book #1) very helpful in getting past my elbow pain. However, I still followed Dr. Sarno's principles.

So more specifically, how did you use these books to get past your pain? Thanks.

Great news, indeed. Enjoy!

Thanks for the book recommendations.

Wow John, what a turn around, well done.
I will add those books to the wiki list in the hope that it will help someone else recover.
Since with TMS and it's recovery, one size most definitely does not fit all, would you be able to write some sort of success story so that we could refer people to it?
Again, great news, enjoy you new life!
