By just saying that, am I conditioning my body to BE stiff? Seems like everybody around me is a little stiff after sitting for a while, and especially after some physical activity and then sitting down and trying to move an hour later. |

Posted - 12/26/2004 : 20:21:42 Hi Michele
as we get into the refined and finer points of TMS ,it gets harder and harder to distinguish what is psychological and what isn't. It's funny...like susies post on the numbness string...she had the 'nocebo effect' i.e. she GOT the symptom AFTER reading the string,I had the reverse...after that discussion I haven't had any for several nights. I've never had any unusual stiffness other than lifting weights or running after a long time off,or after a really hard game...just for a day. It's easy to say that not everything is TMS related, but I'm finding through the experiences of others on this board that my mind isn't buying aNy symptoms right now....I've been unusually attuned since joining this group and have already started to "clean out the crevices' if you will....never had any pain to speak of,but I'm looking into the real "normal" stuff that we take for granted as being real...stiffness,night tingles/falling asleep, colds, etc.
I had a 30 second shot of sciatica today walking up the stairs from retrieving my youngest at sunday school....that one came to me like lightning....I've finally found a church who's doctrines I like and enjoy the pastor/sermons,but fundamentally I have hated church my whole life.....and being alone to take care of the kids instead of having coffee and donuts like all the other adults.
That was the shortest sciatica event I've ever had...I just stopped right there on the stairwell and laughed it away! My 6 year old said "what's so funny Dad?".....if only he knew..
I'd say go ahead and assume it's related and treat it as such, and if it's NOT psychosomatic it will remain.....we may as well challenge every accepted idea....who knows? We may all end up completely healthy....Deepak Chopra would really appreciate this board.
peace,love and nastysplitfingerfastballs

Posted - 12/26/2004 : 17:24:38 Michelle, I am going through a big battle with the stiffness. I've been getting much better in moving around and feel like I'm back on the road to being well. However, after sitting for any length of time, I have a lot of difficulty in getting going again.
I'm positive that it's conditioning. I'm trying to get my brain to respond. I also think that the fear factor is there since I've had such a hard time. Once I'm going, I'm okay.
Getting up in the morning is sometimes a nightmare. I know what is going on and that's half the battle. I really believe I will overcome this. I've come so far.
Hope you are getting better.
