the focus of the show is "HEROIC" medicine, and certainly not the practice of anything reality based. This wouldn't be consistent with House's Know it all attitude, and constant degrading of himself and everyone around him.
He's obviously has a typical TMS personality, but the kind that would never accept a psychological diagnosis.

referred to as the "worst M.D. ever" by my community health teacher.

Well, that's a nice episode.

I think that the writers like to explore psychosomatic disorders. It's interesting to watch their take on it.

Too bad this guy had epilepsy.

I've told him, but he doesn't listen. At least not through the TV screen.

You're right, they should have him read the book and recover, but they would still need some drama to write about, so they could have him develop lots of symptom imperatives. The residents could try to figure out what's wrong with him (unsuccessfully of course). He could have all kinds of testing. That ought to cover a few episodes or a season.

Then, they could have him go to visit Dr. Sarno and go through "treatment". Once he really recovers, he could try to get all of his colleagues and patients to accept the information (unsuccessfully of course). They think he's off his rocker and wonder about his competence. His patients are offended thinking he is insinuating that they are faking it.

You get the picture.

Funny, while I was watching HOUSE I was thinking that I should write to the writers. Maybe Dr. House should read MBP or TDM. He could use a bit of education about TMS. Then he could quit taking all those mind altering drugs. He cetainly sends a poor message to all of those who have TMS..take pills and suffer..
Dr. House you can recover without your pills...Injuries heal and don't cause life long pain..It isn't structural it's psychological.
