Posted - 01/07/2009 : 05:57:12 For the past five or so years I've had chronic tightness and discomfort on my left side. This affects all the muscles around my left hip as well as lower back and hamstrings. In the past I've also had shoulder and neck pain but I've had no reoccurance of that for over a year. I've been down the ususal routes - PT, Chiro, Osteopath - but nothing has really helped. I also do Pilates twice a week but that hasn't really done anything either. Has anyone experienced symptoms like this and could it be TMS?
I am a fairly anxious person but I haven't really had any trauma in my life. Ive got a great family, a good job, lots of friends and am happily married. My circumstances have changed a lot since the onset of my condition but it hasn't really got any better or worse.
Thoughts anyone? |

Posted - 01/07/2009 : 15:49:26 I used to get very similar symptoms of muscle tightness (still do occasionally but now just ignore them). If you've had it checked out with a doctor and done all the usual stuff i would say it sounds like TMS. My main symptoms were RSI but I also had a lot of muscle tightness, mainly on the right side. Having realised my symptoms were TMS and harmless, I went back to doing everything I had stopped doing. I used to do PIlates every day and now don't do that any more.
You don't have to have had any major trauma in your life to have TMS - if you are a fairly anxious person that immediately ups the likelihood! Have you read the mind-body prescription or any of Sarno's books? If not, I would recommend the mind-body prescription. you can also do a search on the forum under muscle tightness to see other people who have posted on similar topics and the responses they got.
