Dr. Sarno claims that you really just have to accept the diagnosis. I have done that, but I wanted to know if there is something specific that a TMS psychotherapist does that a regular therapist does not. |

Posted - 12/21/2004 : 05:53:24 Hey D-Pain!
I never went to a TMS psychotherapist...just your plain old garden variety one.I didn't go for the pain...I went after the pain went away and I was left with this enormous reservoir of anger and pain and rage..... My symptoms being gone,I was now aware that 1.I resented my family for never haveing told me the truth about my fathers death 2.I resented my MOM for going on a "world tour" right after he died and never dealing with US(her kids 3. I resented having missed my opportunity to go to college,as I was so desperately trying to get attention from the world that I was constantly in trouble 4. I had a well paying job in an industry I fundamentally HATE 5. I want to be a good father, but I resent my boys for the time they take, and for the attention they need from me and my wife
etc,etc,etc....
It really helped...it also was a "gestalt moment" ...I realized that perhaps I needed to do some drastic things....I moved across country, quit my "wonderful" job,and am STILL involved with going through an evolution of sorts with my wonderful wife...who sometimes things aren't so wonderful with!
I didn't know(back than) that there were special therapists...I just got a refferal and went...most therapists are very understanding of sarno.
peace
