Anyway has anyone heard of or experienced what they thought might be heart palpitations as a distraction?
I'm hugely stressed right now, frustrated, depressed, overwhelmed, you name it. I had sort of a minor break down and a couple days following I developed all day long, about every 5 minutes to half an hour heart palpitations. These have been going on now for a week without a let up. |

Posted - 09/27/2008 : 17:25:47 I've had them off and on for years relating to stress. It's called tackacardia(not sure of spelling). My doctor told me you are supposed to treat them when you have more then 7 a minute. Pending a normal cardiac workup, if that is all you have they are harmless. Mine are always worse at night and when I lie down. When I go to the doctor, my heart actually feels as if it is hitting my sternum. I have just come to accept them and take it as a reminder to deal with whatever is stressing me instead of worying about the heart flutters. They also say that reducing caffeine will help. |

Posted - 09/27/2008 : 08:17:42 yep, had heart palpatations on and off that started in late 20's, similar experiences as dave and hillbilly. Now that back pain is dominant symptom I haven't had them since. Go figure. |

You have to treat the anxiety, not the symptoms. All this chasing around the body looking, monitoring, is the fuel that keeps it going. I had heart palps during the worst of my illness that lasted all day long, ticking up to a pounding when I had to deal with a customer or otherwise exert myself, then slowing down to a rapid constant thump when I was back in my cocoon of worry. They are usually one of the first symptoms someone gets when under extreme stress.
Think of them like the ones that come on when you are in a scary movie. They go away when the heroine escapes, but they won't if mentally you are running from the combine harvester all the time, e.g. fearing financial problems (who wouldn't have that one right now?), problems with kids, or whatever. You are fine and healthy, just stressed.
I hate quotations. Tell me what you know.

Posted - 09/26/2008 : 11:31:41 It has been a symptom for me. In fact, after the worst lower back pain attack of my life, the following week I developed constant heart palpatations and went through a full cardio checkup.
This was during a time of my life when I accepted several consulting jobs. On the surface this was great news as I would be expanding my business. I was repressing serious concerns about my ability to handle the increased workload and deliver on my promises. |

Posted - 09/26/2008 : 09:22:04 My brother had infuriating things happening at a job, and then developed heart palps. Went to doc, got beta blockers. Left the job shortly thereafter and guess what else left. Yup, the heart palps. Hasn't had them since he left the job! (and he quit the betas early on when he realized the connection with the job)
Aren't heart palps mentioned in TDM? |

Posted - 09/26/2008 : 03:16:08 Quite possibly could be TMS especially since you mentioned it all started after your breakdown but I agree with LTS to err on the side of caution. Have it checked out for peace of mind

Posted - 09/25/2008 : 19:26:13 Heart palpitations are also a symptom of anxiety. I had them when my anxiety was out of control. I had a cardiac workup and all came back normal. I agree with the other posters... TMS and it seems to be doing a great job distractiing you. Focus on the issues bothering you instead of your symptoms. Best of luck, Debbie |
