to be TMS or an equivalent? I haven't found anything on that in the books. Why is that reaction a big clue that it's TMS? Would these symptoms NOT terrify a "normal" person?
Thanks

Nobody says they have to 'terrify' you, but they must be distracting (though not everyone accepts this theory, but assume I'm channeling Sarno here). One way to be distracting is to worry you.

Many people have symptoms that are concerning and that have a physical basis. They go to the doctor, and they get diagnosed, and then they know what's up and they deal with it. But if you go to a doctor and they can't find anything systemically wrong with you, and you are still having symptoms that take over your life because you are always thinking about them or worrying they will come back, then that is a clue that TMS is at play -- because you have been checked out and no disease process is found, and because the emotional behavior toward the symptoms is suggestive of TMS. If the symptoms don't worry or limit you, you don't have TMS by definition because the symptoms, if they are still even present, don't affect your life or lifestyle. (This is in fact the definition for being cured of TMS, at least in my mind. :)

And if you've been checked out and nothing is found and you are still 'terrified', you are clearly having an emotional reaction that is out of proportion to your situation, and that's indicative of TMS -- the emotion ramps up to distract you from the other intense emotions you are trying to ignore.
