I am really starting to accept TMS as my diagnosis because I have pain all the time and then it just eases up. My pain is very mild most of the time. Usually a mild burning or anxious type pain in my right side and down my leg. That pain is fine with me. It goes away when I can fully relax and I am starting to really relate my pain to a general anxiety disorder. My problem is, I believe that my anxiety comes only from worrying about my weird spasms returning. My spasms are so weird. They are the worst pain and don't let up for a long time. However, during the spasm, I can move around and bend like I am fine, but I have an excruciating inner pain. The spasm seems to come every 4 months. It is the worst strangest sensation I have ever had. I am no longer worried about hurting my back, but I am worried about what to do now that I have accepted the diagnosis of TMS. I am only afraid of the pain, not injuring myself.

Hi,

My thoughts are that you should keep reading about TMS (books, this forum etc) and keep on journalling (start if you haven't).

Dr Sarno says in the books that it can take a while even after you consciously believe you have TMS for the unconscious to catch up. Remember that it doesn't want to let the pain go as it thinks it's doing you a favour by bringing it on.

You're halfway there. As infuriating as it sounds I think the more impatient we become with the process the more we feed into the TMS. I am beginning to be more patient and I am getting somewhere now.

Maybe you might like to read Anneg's posts on anxiety even though her experience of anxiety won't be exactly the same as yours.

Kat
