Hello;

I hope this message finds you well. I would like to share with you:

Facts, Myths and Complete Mis-understandings surrounding pain disorders, Hot New Research and Special Insights.

Facts about Physical Pain Disorders that are caused by Inner Stress - Tension - Anxiety:
Pain is Always a SIGNAL to be aware of your thoughts and feelings and who/how you are being. And it is never ever in these pain disorders a reason to get a physical treatment or even Think about receiving a physical treatment. How you respond to this pain signal is Big Huge communication that can immediately begin to reverse this pain disorder or continue to keep you distracted and "in" the pain disorder.

Myths
If you are suffering with a physical pain disorder you simply need to acquire information and knowledge about the pain disorder in order to stop the pain. And if that does not work then you have a Big Huge repressed emotion or issue that only a psychologist can help you with.

This is simply not true...This is not the way these pain disorders operate within you. People do have remarkable situations of their pain going away from just learning about these disorders. In some cases this could be permanent, but in most the pain comes back again (it may be 5-10 years later) so that the real cause can be addressed. However, if your pain has not completely gone away it does not mean that there is this Big Huge repressed emotion that has to be dealt with.

Mis-Understandings
What is the real cause, what is initiating the pain? I believe it is very important that you understand what is initially creating this bio-chemical event in your body that produces pain. It is your thoughts. Your moment to moment daily thoughts and thought patterns. Worry is a thought and I have found that this is the Number 1 thought pattern that initiates pain. Being self-conscious is a thought pattern and is closely tied in with worry. Striving, controlling and being a people pleaser are thought patterns. And they have worry and self-conscious thoughts mixed within them.

When you are looking for the silver-bullet, the fastest most efficient path out of pain, you should begin by becoming very aware of your unique thought patterns that are generating inner tension and stress within you.

Hot Research
Researchers from the School of Nursing,Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA investigated the effects of a 10-week mind-body intervention (guided imagery with relaxation) on symptom management for Hispanics suffering from Fibromyalgia, a chronic pain disorder of unknown origin which affects 2% of the population in the United States. Another 16 million Hispanics suffer from generically identified rheumatic diseases that likely include FM. The pilot study used a repeated-measures pretest-posttest design.

The study found a significant change from baseline to week 10 of the relaxation-guided imagery intervention, demonstrating improvement in self-efficacy for managing pain and other symptoms as well as functional status.

The researchers conclude that imagery with relaxation is a mind-body intervention that may be used for symptom management in this population.

Citation:Menzies V, Kim S. Relaxation and guided imagery in Hispanic persons diagnosed with fibromyalgia: a pilot study. Family and Community Health. 2008 Jul-Sep; 31 (3): pages 204-12. vsmenzies@vcu.edu

My thoughts on this research: Fibromyalgia is a tension induced pain disorder. It is no different than TMS. These pain disorders are not discriminate on race. Guided Imagery works in helping you process internally your thoughts and emotions---It helps you open up and get in touch with who you are being even when big time fear is present!

Conclusion
Stay the course. These pain disorders can be healed by you. If you need help I truly believe that my experience and information is perfectly targeted to help you as an individual learn about and eliminate this disorder from your life.

You do have to do most of this inner work yourself. But don't be afraid to seek help that can help you do the work.

Very helpful information as I have searched in vain for The Smoking Gun Huge Buried Emotion for 30 years of recurring tms in various body parts. It makes sense that my minute to minute worry and self consciousness have been the culprit all along. Instead I've been mired in Vietnam survivor guilt, parental mistakes, traumatic past events, etc. All the while I'm a self confessed Professional Worrier but have never found a way to change that. Meditation leaves me cold, exercise gives me an hour or two of relief from worry. But I have concluded that my worry is hard wired- genetic gift from my Professional Worrier mother. Am now focused on slaying my Idealized Self(Horney)that generates tons of Soulds that generates tons of stress and tension. Banish the Shoulds will hopefully reduce worries. Your reaction? thanks. steve
