has anyone had severe episodes of shortness of breath? I was diagnosed with tms by the man himself years ago for my backpain. Now that I've been cured I suffer from anxiety. Just to be safe I got an EKG and echocardiagram to check out my heart and all is healthy. This feeling like I can't breath is scary.

Anyone have this? It wakes ne up at night or keeps me awake. Ive had panic attacks before this isn't a panic attack I just can't breath. Ugh : (

skizzik I do have one of her books -- I think it is hope and help for your nerves but I recently misplaced it (ARGH!!!!). I am looking all over for it. I have a little one and she likes to take my books off the bookcase and throw them around so I'm always putting stuff back but for some reason Claire's book flew the coop!:(:(

Yes post nasal drip can be added to the list for sure. I can confirm it now that it's gone and that I know what it was, not only that but because it goes all the way down in your system it will create related symptoms down to where ever that goes first one being the throat then the vocal cords then the lungs if it can get in the stomach follows on the list and then the small and large intestine with flue like symptoms.
sometime separately and sometime all together... shorteness of breath was part of the symptoms but I think it resulted from anxiety about the rest mostly .It did wake me up in the middle of the night as I thought my blood was being sucked out of my body and looking like it was too with the tingling and all . Scary and annoying nevertheless.

I wish I'd seen this a couple of years ago when it was posted because I get shortness of breath randomly and often. My doc suggested hyperventilation syndrome and of course my rampant insane anxiety. I get panic attacks and sometimes I'll just feel fine then have weird feelings like I'm smothering or like my lungs are congested or tight or like someone's choking me or I can't get a full breath. I have had tests and everything's fine so I am left only with anxiety and TMS as possibilities. I find that pain and breathing stuff and all sorts of weird symptoms all go together as one big thing with me. I also have severe sinus problems and post nasal drip and reflux. The breathing sensations are extremely terrifying and make me want to cry but I can't cry. I have spent sooo much money on these things, and I have no health insurance so I pay full for everything.

Hi Jena, Actually, I didn't really have a sinus INFECTION, it was just sinus congestion, sinus headaches .... but yes, that was all TMS I believe. "Sinus headaches" are now gone, and now when I get a headache, I just tell it I'm not putting up with it (!), and try to do some journalling and then often it goes. BTW, have you heard the Claire Weekes' audio (mp3s?) I find them very helpful for my own "anxiety", "depression", and I am also starting to apply it to my (new symptom) "allergy-related fatigue" ...

i would bet on anxiety but this is just my opinion.

I think therefore I am.

sorry for my above posting typos. I didn't mean to write why I be lol rme is tms

Armchair, honestly the reason I post about my symptoms ( just like everyone else on here does) is because it feels better when someone can relate to me and reassure me it is TMS. As far as TMS work I see a therapist (not a tms therapist they are to expensive) I started reading the divided mind again to. My problem is I need to be reassured this is anxiety. I know it states it in the book but I was hoping someone can relate to me. My anxiety comes mostly at night and it comes whenever it feels like. I hate feeling like I can't breath.

Also rage your sinus infection was tms? Even though I know about rme and have cured my backpain why I be having anxiety in the firer place.

Because it's another equivalent...

Jena...what are you doing as far as TMS work? You keep posting about your symptoms, but we can't really help you unless you post about what's going on with you as far as emotions and dealing with TMS. If you keep coming to the board only when freaked out with some new anxiety-related symptom, it's probably not going to help much.

Jena, if you suffer from anxiety (TMS equivalent?) then maybe as la_kevin suggests, it is related to that. However, just wanted to mention another possibility (actually, this is just another TMS equivalent!) ... but I experienced a feeling of "I CAN'T BREATHE!!!" for some time and I couldn't figure out why and as I obviously WAS breathing I felt stupid going to the doctors saying I felt I couldn't breathe ... anyway, to make a long story short, eventually I figured out it was related to a SINUS condition (allergy-related), even though I never FELT "stuffed up" or congested or had any other overt (to me) sinus symptoms ... I just had this feeling that I couldn't breathe. (I had a SEVERE headache one day which I DID go to the doctors for, and he figured it out that it was all sinus related: sinus headache, etc etc.) Anyway, I do believe the whole sinus headache / and the feeling that I couldn't breathe, was just another part of TMS and I finally got off all my sinus meds after doing TMS work for 2 months (after being on the meds for years!)

This seems to be a reaction when most of the TMS symptoms or equivalents dwindle down. I don't know why, but the anxiety ramps up. If you're having shortness of breath from walking or mild activity, I would suggest the Doctor.

If you're having shortness of breath all day BUT fine when you sleep, are in a relaxed state, or busy focusing on something, it may be just plain anxiety.

The 'shortness of breath" feeling always gets confused with mild hyperventilation too. For people who aren't used to the anxiety based "shortness of breath", it can feel like something is wrong with your lungs/heart.

Does your face tingle? Your skin around your head? Muscles on your neck tense? Weird sensations in your face or cheeks? Tingling on your lips? Feeling like something is tickling your throat?

Those are all symptoms of anxiety too.
