I'll be traveling to the East Coast this summer and would like to see a TMS doctor while I'm there. I've seen all of the names of TMS doctors that practice there, but would like to hear from you if you've worked with someone in MA or D.C. recently. I'm even willing to go to NH or ME if you've had exceptionally good experiences with someone there.

I prefer a logical, analytical approach so that would be my preference. Thank you for any recommendations you can give.

I would recommend Dr.Sopher. Get a diagnosis and if you have tms attend his session. That will speed things up. paul.

Maybe it's a TMS symptom, but I think it's more of a reaction to all of the doctors I've seen who don't want to engage in problem solving at all. In any way, shape, or form. I have seen maybe three out of fifteen doctors where I live who seems to be logical in their approach. I know that I can't force anyone to be logical, but I certainly can pick a doctor who puts a bit more effort into thinking things through. And trying to explain things, rather than not bothering, or answering reasonable questions with "that's just the way it is." Sometimes that's the answer, but most of the time it's not. I'll give you an example. I had chronic daily headaches. I saw four top neurologists in my area. Not one of them asked me if I drank caffeine or took over the counter pain relievers. This was at a time when research was all over the Web about how OTC pain relievers CAUSE chronic daily headache. Not one of them asked me, and I was not aware of the research at the time. This was over a few years time. In the meantime, i went through three rounds of botox at $600 cash per treatment, physical therapy, medications that gave me terrible side effects , etc. So I kept having daily headaches over the years until I found a book through amazon.com about migraines and chronic daily headaches. I got off the caffeine and Tylenol, following the book's advice, and my daily headaches went away, to leave me only with three or four/month.

So, yes, I would love to see someone who is logical and a problem solver. And no, absolutely not, just because someone is a doctor, it does not follow that they're logical or analytical in any way. This is not a rant against you. I think that you, and me, and everyone else deserves a doctor who is sharp, and asks questions, and uses logic to find out why you're having symptoms.

Regardless of TMS, it's definately everyone's perogative to find a doctor they "get", medicine is a business and I know I've spent thousands of wasted dollars on doctors who didn't bother to ask pertinent questions, or ignored pertinent answers.

Well, I don't think you're going to find many doctors in general who aren't logical and analytical, but this strikes me as a classic TMS thing, wanting everything to be logical. The point of TMS is that not everything is logical. :)

The Tarpit Yoga directory for TMS physicians is usually the best place to look them up. I notice that DC has Andrea Leonard-Segal, who wrote my favorite supplementary chapter in The Divided Mind. Based on her chapter it seems like she has a very sensible but empathetic approach to TMS.

It's not 100% belief that's required, but 100% commitment.

I saw Antonio Martinez in Dedham, MA. I also had a phone consult with Marc Sopher in NH. I'd say Sopher was the better of the two. Martinez had a bit less of a firm commitment to the ideas than Sopher did.
