Every moment of every day, every task we undertake, every word we utter, every opinion we have, every pose we assume are all aimed at achieving the feeling of being loved, or coping with the feeling we are not loved. Each neurosis and psychosis has its roots in love frustration. Every disease, illness, accident, revolution, war, and disaster has its roots in love frustration. Blindly, all humanity reaches for a love object. Sensitively, we recoil from each rebuff.Silently, we withdraw our love within the fortress of forgetfullness, and post sentinels of hostility, despair, ruthlessness, and cruelty at the gates to be sure that love will neither enter or depart. And so we kill our hopes and our very lives. |

Posted - 05/11/2008 : 16:13:09 Thanks, Amy and Elise. I found this book after listening to a meditation cd by Kelly Howell that was based on his meditations from the book. The love rejection and frustration cycle starts when we are very young, and keeps going. I think this causes the anger, that causes the pain, etc. Amy, I believe you are on the right track, looking inside, rather than to external sources for love. |

Posted - 05/11/2008 : 14:54:27 That is so true about our need for love. It seems that I can trace almost every negative emotion I have on my need to recieve love. I wonder why Sarno does not address this in his book. When we feel unloved, we get angry. So is the source of our TMS really anger or the incredible need for love and often feeling unloved...

Posted - 05/10/2008 : 14:11:04 Thank you, Runner. I have been meditating on and thinking about how it was my perception of losing unconditional love that started me on my path to worry, anxiety, goodism, perfectionism, etc.
I'm now working on giving that unconditional love back to myself rather than expecting it from others.
That excerpt reaffirms what I've been noticing in my own life. How the wanting of love and often craving it, sometimes drives me to hurt myself. Even though that is the opposite of what I say I want.
Thanks for sharing. |
