Hello Everyone,
Remember I asked if I should keep my appt. with Sarno?( because I was already convienced that I had TMS) Well I did just for the hell of it. After sitting down with him for about 4 minutes he very softly said "you know you really don't need me. I am not charging you anything (was suppose to be $300). Let's just have a little chat". I was amazed and delighted, so happy I went. I asked him if he knew about this message board and he just slightly grinned, uninterested.
Nothing has changed since I was there 6 years ago. Same old simple office. Same sweet receptionist named Mary. And of course I was there with my same old TMS (relaspe). I am going to join group therapy that is starting up soon with one of his "TMS therapists" along with continueing with my own psychotherapist. I asked him about my adult asthma too since I was there.( I have been starting to suspect that it is an equivilant too). He just flat out said "of course". I gave him alittle hug (just had to) said goodbye to Mary and was on my way.

Tennis Tom,
I didn't ask him about any medication. (BTW it was anxiety medication not for depression). For now I am going to just hold tight and stick with my new psychotherapist and get started with group session sessions w/the TMS therapist. Thanks for asking.

Holly, congratulations on your successful visit to the Good
Doctor! Thanks for the feedback. I'm wondering if you asked Dr. Sarno about taking the anti-depressants? Has your view on needing them changed since the appointment?

Holly,
I saw Sarno a year ago. The irony is that I spent 3 weeks at the Rusk Institute for rehab after I had my knees replaced. I must have passed by his little office 20 times. Had I gone to him first, I never would have had the surgery.

It amazes me how many people think he must be rolling in dough. I'm not starting a benefit for him, but for all the powerful work he has done, he is so understated and low key.

I'm not surprised at what he did with you. When you posted that you were going, I suspected this would happen. He just really wants people to feel better and to take their lives back from the doctors (who he told me are mostly "charlatans").

I sure wish I was in NY to go to one of his groups. Hope it always continues to help you.

"you know you really don't need me"....wow.

That pretty much speaks volumes.
What MD would ever say THAT??

It's funny..the only person who ever said that to me in my entire life was a spiritual mentor I had for a period. He's actually the one who helped me develop my Anger/fear/rage journaling.....I called him once after a seemingly out of hand situation had arisen out of nowhere, and that's what he said too.
Once you've been around the block, what else is he going to teach you?
I'm sure there is loads we can all continually learn about ourselves, taking new trips around the block, but after the first trip the journey becomes personal and individual.

That's great....I saw a couple of different therapists as new things surfaced when the distraction went away...oh yeah..and a Marriage counselour too(it really helped too....stop laughing!!)

This story just made my whole week!

You rule Holly

peace.
