Posted - 01/10/2008 : 09:33:13 Knowing that I had a dental appointment coming up I start applying the TMS approach to my gums a week ago as an experiment. I have had periodontal treatment for over 12 years with little improvement, even with heavy duty antibiotics.
Just got back from the dentist now -my hygenist was so flabberghasted with the biggest improvement in 12 years that she is going to order a copy of the "Divided Mind" tonight. The dentist quietly acknowledged the improvement, patted me on the shoulder, but had absolutely nothing to say about it. I think he secretly hopes that his prediction that I will lose 8 teeth any day now might still be true so that he can fleece me out of more cash. He'll have to keep hoping - those teeth are staying where they belong!

He made himself feel better by telling the hygenist to write that one of my teeth was definitely "terminal".
A specific affirmation for gums is the acknowledgement that the usual reason we are given for gum problems is BS ("bacteria are eating away in the gaps between the teeth"). If this were true why do they only eat sometimes (I would have no gums left if it were continuous) and prefer to come when there is a proposal deadline or other stress?

Posted - 01/11/2008 : 06:40:24 Wow, QSO, thanks for posting this. Happy to see I'm not the only one who feels teeth/gum/bone issues are mind-related. My driller has harrassed me occcasionally over the past 8 years or so about the cut-n paste gum operation, but I told her I am not open to it. When she told me it could come back after the operation, that really sealed the "NO" for me. There is a reason it would come back! The source of the issue wasn't addressed! I don't want to waste time and $ and have pain to treat a symptom. I am willing to work on my emotions and issues and enjoy the fruits of my labor as my health improves, including gums. I recall some time ago I had a cleaning (not usuallly enjoyable) and for the first time it didn't hurt at all. Hmm. I realized it was because I had taken the day off work and was totally relaxed and not thinking, "oh I have to get to work and this is taking too long" or the usual string of thoughts that would occur as I sat and waited and waited. While I'm not sure the driller would admit to me she sees drastic improvement, she cannot say things have gotten worse in the past few years! Your post is again proof that our physical health is greatly affected by our emotions. Thanks!
I don't mind the Hicks' at all, and LOVE Louise Hay--she has her ideas on why we have gum problems and I am using her affirmations to work on it too.

Posted - 01/10/2008 : 12:19:01 I wish my dental problems were TMS. I don't have anything wrong with me per se, just wisdom teeth that need to come out and I am so nervous to get it done! |

Posted - 01/10/2008 : 10:13:01 Yes - I avoided probably years of splints and TMJ misery by insisting that my TMJ was TMS. I still went through weeks of pain, but it went away suddenly one day after I had spent a week teaching a seminar in which I repeatedly told everyone that my tooth pain was just TMS.
The dentists had their scaffolding of ever-more-intense resolutions all ready - a soft splint, a hard splint, a four thousand dollar splint. I don't blame them - they are loving people usually. Following the old paradigm - and why shouldn't they.
I also remember a story from Jerry Hicks, husband of Esther Hicks, channel of Abraham, which is the secret behind The Secret. (Even though The Secret is clearly very limited, I found Abraham teachings very helpful in the direction of accepting the TMS diagnosis when it came along). Jerry said that he had gone to a dentist who told him he had 10 teeth that were decayed. He decided to go for "the better-feeling thought" which was probably that his teeth were okay, and 10 years had passed since then and he hadn't been to a dentist and was fine. A bit extreme, but inspiring.
I was once in an Abraham seminar (in 2000) and during a break someone in the audience told me this story: "I had such bad food allergies I could only eat 5 foods. Each week, it was becoming less and less. So based on Abraham teachings I decided to make these my 5 favorite foods. Soon it was four, and it came down to one, which I determinedly made my favorite food. Then it broke, and I could eat anything."
I'm not advocating Abe or The Secret (don't get your knickers in a twist anyone!), but there are aspects of truth here. Someone was mentioning somewhere about different approaches for optimists and pessimists in TMS. I was a pessimist. Doing Abe stuff years ago made me less of a pessimist about my horrible health stuff. My health got better, because I wasn't stressing about it so much. Then I became TOO optimistic and overrode my unconscious feelings even more and got sicker.
Go figure.
Boy, did that caffeine get me going this morning!
xx
