Posted - 12/04/2007 : 12:09:35 Just came back from a doctor visit with a physcian who has same beliefs as Sarno. I was given a bit of mixed message. To make sure his basis was covered he explained that there could possibly be some physical problems with my discs, but not to concern myselves with them at this point, and to focus on my diagnosis of TMS. I have read some of Sarno's Healing Back Pain, and realize that I can't believe those 2 theory's. I don't want to waste any more time. I would love to hear from people who have recovered from TMS. From people who have had physical issues, but have succeeded with the TMS theory and are free of pain. Thank you for listening! |

Posted - 12/06/2007 : 12:36:16 Oh that is how you do the success stories. I was told that I should view and read success stories on this forum, but didn't know how to get there. Thank you! Makes sense now! I really love what I have read so far, and there is so much hope on this forum. I am going to continue to keep coming. |

Posted - 12/05/2007 : 20:52:27 Hi tracey,
what an awesome thing that you have the support or a doc as well as the Sarno books.
If you like reading success stories, I recommend Mindbody Perscription. That book helped me and I really benefited from the stories in it of people recovering from all different kinds of pain using the TMS approach.
If you go to the search feature at the top of this forum and search "SuccessStories" you will find a number of other stories by folks on the forum.

Posted - 12/05/2007 : 11:55:49 Keep at it Tracey, it doesn't always happen overnight! I've read HBP and MBP probably 10-15 times each. I have the HBP CD set and listen to it in my car, sometimes for days. |

Posted - 12/04/2007 : 21:09:40 Hi TraceyD,
TraceyD said: I do have a question though, how do you start?
You mention you have read "some" of HBP. Why did you stop? Finish it and then read it again. Then go on to the Good Doctor's other books. That's how you start.
Your doc is right, beating TMS is done by unlearning your expectations and concept of what causes pain, and about what is pain really, and why it causes fear in HUMANS.
You are in a blind rage, inside of you, and TMS is a distraction to prevent this rage from exploding to the outside world.
So, please read on in HBP and you will be on your way. Also, you got some excellent suggestions in the other replies to your post. The 20/20 video is excellent, too, and I watch it a few time a year.
Take care, -Stryder |

Thank you for your suggestions and information. I do have a question though, how do you start? The DR. said I have TMS and to re-program my brain. How do you do that? I guess I am such a visual learner, that I am having a hard time with not taking an action, or do I? Thanks! |

Posted - 12/04/2007 : 14:00:41 Tracey, TMS works! But only if it is accepted. I suggest you go to Amazon.com and read some of the over 300 reviews of Healing Back Pain by people whom it cured. http://www.amazon.com/review/product/0446392308/
And I suggest you watch the 20/20 video here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6660313127569317147
And there is a forum of success stories here: http://tmshelp.com/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=4
and here's what Dr. Marc Sopher, author of To Be or not to Be Pain Free says: quote: "With the availability of CT and now MRI scanners, it is possible to obtain remarkable images of the body. That is the good news. The bad news is that many of these images will be reported as abnormal - one study reported in the New England Journal of Medicine that greater than 60% of spine MRIs showed abnormalities, the same percentage in those without pain as with pain. Virtually every person over 20 who has a spine MRI will be told they have degenerative disc disease, disc herniation, degenerative changes, or some other abnormality. As these findings are present equally, no matter whether symptoms exist, it is Dr. Sarno's and my contention that these are incidental, rarely the cause for pain. Unfortunately, physicians are taught to find a physical cause for physical symptoms and thus tell their patients about their "back problem."
"Being told that you have a "problem" or "condition" can aid the "nocebo response." This is the opposite of the placebo response. With a placebo, belief in a worthless remedy can provide relief, almost always temporary, due to the desire to be well and faith in the value of the remedy. With a nocebo, symptoms will persist or intensify as a result of being informed, incorrectly, that a significant defect or problem is to blame. This is a critical part of conditioning - coming to believe that certain actions, circumstances, or aspects of the environment are the cause of symptoms, when in fact the cause lies in the mind."
Good luck in building your confidence in TMS. It works!
