Is there any sort of directory or anything to find a psychoanalyst that has knowledge of TMS? I really need help from someone in the know.

HazerFazer -

Start writing - every day! You will be amazed at where it will take you and what new understandings you will find. Just try it - If you are worried about someone reading it, burn it every day.

The link on the TMS Forum home page has a free guided journaling piece that you can print out.

Keep us posted on your progress -

I have read Mindbody Prescription and am reading Healing Back Pain. The thing is, I have cured myself of two different physical manifestations of TMS through reading Mindbody Prescription (RSI last year and then in the past few weeks back pain after being naively convinced it was structural for several months). I have been dealing with emotional/mental TMS equivalents badly for a couple years (though with various things for much of my life - I'm 17 by the way). I am excited that I have seen recent improvements at times, but I don't know...
I have talked to a couple psychologists in the past but I really did not like going at all. I need to find the right person and the right process as I know I have a ridiculous amount of stuff repressed and suppressed inside. At this point I will make sure that my belief and knowledge that things are going to be better for me grows greatly. I just don't know how at this point.

Can't wait to be healed!

Hi Hazer,

Welcome to our group. What books have you read? What have you tried on your own?

There are TMS doctors, but you don't need a specialist to get better. A lot of TMS sufferers don't need psychotherapy. If you want one, find a doctor who specializes in psychoanalsis. Read The Divided Mind as there is an excellent chapter on psychotherapy. You can also check out http://www.tarpityoga.com/directory.html for TMS docs. Also, check out Kelvin's great list of files that can aid your recovery http://kelvin.gunnells.net .

Personally speaking, I didn't see a TMS doctor. I had fibro and a ton of other symtoms that were assessed by many medical doctors to rule out cancer and other non-TMS related illness. I found TMS info by accident (thankfully) and once I finally started living my life and undestanding some of my self-sabotaging patterns and made some changes, I improved. I ended up seeing a therapist who has been great guide to exposing my patterns, but really, I feel like any good psychotherapist could've done this for me. My doc had never heard of TMS before.

I'm sure others will comment on how they found a good doc. I really believe in therapy, especially if you have an extreme personality.

PS, Time is your friend in healing, so rushing thru therapy probably won't get you better faster.
