this is my first post in this message board. i have had a long history with TMS in various forms: anxiety, RSI, chronic colds, headaches... my current issue is sore throat / post nasal drip. it hurts all the time, i can't sleep or enjoy activities because of it. i am feeling so alone and frustrated and in pain.

i read sarno for the first time in about 2000, and his " the mindbody prescription" book helped me get rid of my RSI arm/hand pain. eckhart tolle's book "the power of now" helped me work through the panic attacks.

i am just so tired of being in pain. everything in my current life is wonderful. i have a supportive husband who never tires of listening, two beautiful healthy children, and a good support network. nevertheless, i am in silent and invisible pain all the time. it's not visible to others, so they assume i'm healthy and happy.

there are some complicated issues from childhood and i think that is where this pain is stemming from. but being aware of them doesn't seem to be enough. any suggestions? thanks for listening.

Mindbody Prescription and Power of Now are two of my favourite books, that changed me for the better. To reinforce what Lori said, childhood issues that are repressed and buried can cause your symptoms now. They were the cause of my recurrent symptoms. Now, I will sometimes get blemishes or pimples in response to stress. When I can relate the cause of the skin rash to a current situation, they seem to go away quickly.

Being aware is great. How about the next step: writing or talking about those feelings so they can be released? That is how I got rid of my disabiling TMS back/butt pain last January.
When I feel anger or whatever feeling coming up now, I get a buddy live who's aware of TMS and its treatment to unleash the feelings, or I get out the pen and pad and write write write! Did writing earlier today when I had some emotional trash come up about my ex-husband and his treatment of me.
Childhood issues need to be addressed too.
There have been some great other books (besides all Dr. Sarno's) suggested on this forum about anger and releasing it, books that show the correlation between ailments and emotions, and having a happy & healthy life!
Best wishes and please get started writing!
-Lori
