When I was rereading a book from authors Arthur C. Clarke and Stephen Baxter, The Light of Other Days, written in 2000, I was pleasantly surprised to read this passage on page 249:

"Jesus was able to "cure" mind-mediated and placebo diseases such as back pains, stuttering, ulcers, stress, hay fever, hysterical paralysis and blindness, even false pregnancies."

It goes too far to explain exactly what's going on, but suffice it to say that in this book they have the means to view the past.

The interesting thing however is that respectable SF-writers classify certain "illnesses" as mind-mediated! There is hope after all!
