Posted - 08/24/2007 : 08:03:34 She's been trying to "fix" me for a few years. She just sent me Mindbody Prescription. I read it cover to cover, and I feel like just reading the book has changed my life. I know I have not been in as much pain as many people, and I have even been in more acute pain in the past than I am now, but I didn't totally realize just how conditioned I've become to both avoiding pain and obsessing about pain. Only recently have I come to realize just how narrow my life has become, how I don't/can't do the things I love anymore, and am now having trouble doing the things I need to do. It ends here. I am now a believer. I'm taking my life back. As for repressed/suppressed rage, Sarno's bank account analogy works better than my broken rubber band theory. I recently decided that my stress coping mechanism had simply broken, because my rage has been bubbling over. You know you have a problem when you get adrenaline shaking hands and stomach flipflops over simple things like a car following to closely or a telemarketer calling. I'm starting some lists today, to have a look at some of those rage and pressure sources. Please point me to any useful newbie info on this site. |

Posted - 08/24/2007 : 20:27:27 The newest book is The Divided Mind. And there are some books by other TMS doctors like Brady and Sopher.
But I did find that after thorough reading and re-reading, MBP contains everything you really need to know.

Posted - 08/24/2007 : 09:02:12 I'm going to print that out and put it up where I can see it. I'm also interested in whether there are newer books. I've got MindBody Prescription. The back healing one is in the bookstore, but my back symptoms were the very last to appear in my chronology of pain, and are not as problematic to me as my tendonitis issues. Mostly I just want as much reading reinforcement as I can get as I embark on this new journey. |
