Some six years ago, I was suffering terribly from back pain and sciatica. I tried pain meds and physical therapy and nothing helped. A friend told me about Dr. Sarno's books. At first, I was completely skeptical- my pain had a cause- 2 herniated discs.

I decided to read Mind Over Back Pain. I saw myself in the book. It was enlightening and kind of scary at the same time. It took several weeks, but I did heal and was pain free for years.

I have been suffering from mild sciatic pain for months now with a big flare up last week to the point where I can barely walk from the pain in my thigh and mostly in my knee. I did not injure myself. I had an xray of my knee and the doctor said my knee looks fine. I have shown some improvement, but the pain in the back of my leg down to my foot persists.

I know I can be pain free because I have before. I have some nagging doubts though that are hard for me to shake. I try to be in touch with my feelings and I know what causes me to be anxious and angry, yet, I sit here in pain! I have ordered Dr. Sarno's new book and plan to reread one of his older books.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Ducky,

In Dr. Sarno's first two books he doesn't even mention making lists of the things about you and in your life that could be causing the repressed anger (or other strong negative emotions.) However, in his last two books (and especially in TDM) he tells how important this is.

And, other doctors like Rochelle, Brady and Sopher also explain how helpful this is and some use the term "journaling". In the link below you will find a journaling guide which basically follows Dr. Sarno's recommendation for making this list. Hopefully this will help you - especially after reading his latest book.

Ducky:

I recently had a recurrence of TMS pain. About 8 weeks ago...had it mostly handled - then 4 weeks ago BAM - it was back on me as bad as I ever had it. It's now four weeks later and I'm back to 95% better.

How did I do it? Same way as I did the first go around. Instead of repeating myself, look at my post on this thread for some of the things I do to handle my pain.

Hope it helps. And keep the faith. You're not broken - just need a mental tune up. Do the "work" and the results will come in time.

Dan
