Pain is the reason we're all here.

Exactly. I think what about 99% of the viewers are looking for is examples of others who overcame the same physical symptoms as their own - to know it is possible. In short, validation that their own symptoms are actually physically harmless.

Precisely right weather...Almost all of us follow the same path.

It surprises me too. But maybe it is all part of the process? Sort of like admitting to the pain and then overcoming it? I don't know....I find some posts helpful and others not so much.

Woh. Whoops there goes another rubber-tree plant! Just getting caught up here and see Shawn is leaving again.

ForU ... I've been enjoying your posts recently. I think you make a good point above. This is a recovery board, and getting thru or over TMS means learning to accept the patterns our bodies create for us, perhaps pain is our subconscious' addiction. Discussion and validation from others with our "disease" can help some people (those who are ready for it). People who go thru AA talk about alcohol in order to gain control over it, so why shouldn't we talk about physical pain? I do think the fine line appears when we talk about pain and enable it, instead of talking about it to defeat it, or take control over it. This will be different for each of us and may get lost in written word.

Interesting thoughts. Thanks for sharing.

The Dramatic Departure is the norm on most forums in my experience. I just think of it as Theater of the Absurd.

Now that I stop and think about it, you're right! I just can't figure out what inspired it??? Seemed fine one minute and the next he was gone. Or going....or getting ready to go.

Shawn's threatening to leave again? Didn't we just go through this?

I'm amused you've resorted to drama and post deletion before you leave. What is it with people not being able to leave quietly?

If anything on this board is toxic, it's your overbearing behavior. I'm quite frankly glad you're leaving.

good point stanfr.

This is a TMS help forum site. It's not soley a Freud analytical site. While that's a big part of the treatment, the other pillar of treatment is repudiating the physical. And that entails talking to others about their symptoms, and getting relief that others have had the same symptoms they did and they vanished w/ Sarno treatment.

To gain confidence, I've had to actively search high and low on this site for symptoms like mine, and see that they went away w/ TMS treatment.

People come here because they're initially in pain. If they came here, and all they saw was emotional talk, they would'nt buy into it.

Sarno's books discuss the structural and talk of the symptoms for a reason. People need to debunk the physical b4 the psychological makes any sense.

I don't know how one can discuss a condition that is painful and disabling without mentioning the pain etc.
"people" (50%? 90%?) "obsessed" (well, a subjective term, but hard not to be since that is a part of the condition and what sustains it) "all" (i don't see that at "all").
Sounds like hyperbole to me.
The real threat toward people's recovery is the "my-way-or-the-highway" philosophy occasionally seen by some of the chief posters, don't you think?

Sarno-ize it!
Read chapter 4 of Dr. Sarno's "The Divided Mind." Also chapers 3, 4 and 5 in Dr. Scott Brady's "Pain Free For Life" are very important.
