Posted - 08/02/2007 : 18:47:22 Hello everyone. I changed to a new therapist a few months ago in April and at the end of the session she told me I was in a rage but below the level on consciousness. By the time I got out to my car to drive home I could not drive home yet because I was all of a sudden too busy laughing but realized I could not really stop it and also realized I was letting out a great amount of emotion and tension also.
Within a few minutes of this my depression, anxiety, balance problems, dizziness, irritation were gone and my energy was normal and I didn't have what I call male fybromyalgia because since around 1985 I have ached all over basically and felt " sickly " with unexplained low fevers too. This letting out of emotion lasted for some some 48 hours in a diminishing intensity but.............after that I got angry because my IBS I've had for years didn't go away and next thing I know all symptoms were back.
However, I kept re-reading sections of Sarno's Healing Back Pain book ( just bought The Divided Mind ) and my IBS started to change for the better then out of nowhere a massive 3-week TMJ attack as soon as I realized my IBS was a little better. I've had 3 day TMJ attacks for years but not for 3 weeks.
I seem to be gaining confidence at a very small pace with the belief that I simply have massive TMS equivalents due to the amount of symptoms I've been fighting which also include Reynauds, Whiplash ( if I even make a sudden move ), frequent urination, carpal tunnel with left arm traveling pain from shoulder.
I seem to be in a fight for my mind I guess and it's really hard but I'm still doing it and I've realized I've been putting a self-imposed pressure time limit on this and am trying to stop doing that. My therapist ( who introduced me to TMS on my 3rd session ) helped me to identify the massive anger and rage I didn't know I was in. She's awesome and takes no nonsense from me when I go off subject.
Wanted to share this with the forum too see if anyone has the amount of symptoms I have but like me have been x-rayed from here to Venus and no problem or explanation has ever been found by the descarte followers. |

Posted - 08/07/2007 : 10:55:33 Hi FlyingWing
You've cracked the problem. Don't even think about setting a time scale for complete recovery - how long doesn't matter that much - enjoy every little improvement as it happens. I believe you will find that recovery from TMS once it has begun is unstoppable.
Your story sounds so familiar to me. I had a turnaround similar to the one you describe. It wasn't a therapist - I had begun to suspect that my dreadful back pain, IBS and the various other debilitating symptoms that had all but ruined my life were psychological in origin - did an internet search, found out about Dr Sarno and TMS, sent off for 'The Mindbody Prescription' and that was it. I'd found the answer - rage under the level of consciousness.
That was in 2002 and it took a long time, but, and this is the crucial thing, things were never as bad again.
Your recovery has begun. Enjoy every step along the way.
All best wishes
