Posted - 11/12/2004 : 13:23:09 HEY! When I went through the book in'99 there was NO sarno forums or support groups.I had to face a lot of those nagging doubts alone.I almost contacted the one TMS Dr. In LA,but I re-read the book and the symptoms were gone by the time I was nearing the appointment,so I canceled. I know I'm new,but I started my own little chain of friends on Sarnos' program so I've had a many a detailed discussion.EVERY single friend I've turned on to Sarno has recovered COMPLETELY,every man, every woman. Of course I've had a number of problems since, but NO (zero) ZILCH nada pain.Oh...every now and again (every 18months?) I'll have an "incident"...I just schlep out the book(it's Battered and footnoted everywhere) and do a review...the pains usually gone in a day to a week. I'm actually listed as disabled by the state of California. I had herniated discs,A congenital birth defect(My L5-S1 are one unformed piece..I have one less disc than you) narrowing of the spinal canal,my left leg is 1.25" longer than my right, etc, etc, etc. I play Mens Hardball/baseball..I led my team in steals, batting average and runs last year.I've been drilled in the spine with an 80MPH pitch, fallen end over end in a bicycle accident,Had a 800-1000lb wall collapse on me....never went back to the way I was...the episodes were always limited to the normal recovery time from the trauma(a week). I've spoken of sarno on other forums, but most people just scoff or laugh....it's like the "voice of one ,crying in the wilderness" I'm so excited that there are finally TMS forums.I can maybe finally be useful to other sufferers....I feel like it's the least I can do for Dr Sarno....I've never met him,but the man saved my life!! Thanks for having this forum

Posted - 11/12/2004 : 17:59:40 Basball65, You are an inspiration. Do a google search for john sarno and you will get to a place where you can email him. You can also write him. The address is on the same site. I bet he'd love hearing from someone like you.
I had the great fortune to see him and become his patient. He is an amazing man. He's not that busy. Unlike most doctors who keep you coming back with all kinds of whacky diagnosis and meds, seeing him once is all you really need. Most orthopedic and neurology offices are packed with people never getting better. Not so with Sarno. He works in an old office with just Mary who has been with him for many years and also types his manuscripts.
I'm glad you found this forum. You're great.

Posted - 11/12/2004 : 17:44:34 Hey baseball65-You totally echo my feelings for Sarno. He literally changed my quality of life and how do you repay that? I,too, didn't want to bother him but I couldn't let it go without saying something. I wrote him a letter(somrthing very uncharicteristic for me)and told him about my recovery and thanked him excessively(I really ment it though)for his body of work. I told him I did not want a reply,I just simply wanted to thank him. I felt better and hopefully he appreciated it. I no longer have his address but I'm sure someone will give it to you. Welcome to the board. |

Posted - 11/12/2004 : 16:23:53 Hi Tom,Allan,and Texasrunner
Wow..I keep reading the strings and I'm really encouraged.....there's a whole bunch of us. I never knew that there was any way to contact Sarno, other than seeking medical treatment directly from him. I'd love to send him a note.I didn't want to bug him..I figured he's so dedicated to his work,he's probably really busy.Where can I e-mail him/send him a snail mail?
Also..who are these other people Dr Sopher,Dr Schecter????
I actually try to NOT read other books on pain,,,I alway get alittle twinge or a quick little sciatic flare(LOL!!)
Most of the other literature I've ever read on the subject wasn't as specific....they acknowledge and promote the idea of the connection, but they have no MODEL and they have no plan.
When I first read the book,I had the great fortune to have just been burned in a music deal....a guy stole $500.00 from my share of the profits on a piece of music we sold. I had vivid fantasies of taking my C243 33" Louisville Slugger upside his head.Of course I couldn't do it,but when it got to the part of the book where he says to turn your mind to something unsavory, like a finacial or personal problem it was REALLY easy!! Every time the flames of sciatica roared down my leg,I let the Baseball bat to his head film run in my imagination.......I got well reeeeeaaallly quick, even by Sarno's standards.Complete cripple on crutches to hitting fastballs in three weeks!Back at heavy labor in 4. In retrospect,it was well worth losing the 5 bills to have my body healed.
My wife has chronic sciatica, and still goes to the Chiro/Massage knowing full well that answer is right on our bookshelf. She was raised little miss perfect, and remains little miss perfect, and little miss perfect isn't allowed to think mean things.I stopped preaching to her a long time ago.....when she's had enough she'll crack the cover......God knows,I was certain it was a crock of shee-ot the first, second and third time it was proposed to me!! Pain has a way of leading us all back to Sarno.I feel really bad for the people whi never get a chance to hear about it. If you guys could hook me up with an address or e-mail,I'd certainly write him. Marc the Baseball junkie.

Posted - 11/12/2004 : 15:06:38 Welcome to the Forum Baseball65. Thanks for filling out the Bio. Nothing has worked for me, too, except Sarno. I've never met him, but, I also consider him my doctor.

Posted - 11/12/2004 : 14:35:31 Great posting! You evidently had an "ah ha" moment that lasted for five years.
Dr. Sarno must have helped so many people. He probably knows very little about how many. It would be wonderful if all those that he did help sent him a short note.
He must be in his eighties by now. I am sure that he would appreciate hearing from you regarding your recovery. |

Posted - 11/12/2004 : 13:54:26 Baseball65: Your enthusiasm is infectious! I think you just hit a home run with your attitude. Love the gory details..."drilled in the spine with an 80MPH pitch, fallen end over end in a bicycle accident,Had a 800-1000lb wall collapse on me....!" Just goes to show ya, like Sarno and Dr. Sopher have been saying all along. "Human beings are not fragile. Our spines are very sturdy. We would have become extinct long ago if it were not so!" |
