I'm new to this board, but see myself in many of the posts. 4 years ago I had severe back and leg pain and an MRI showed a horrific herniation. Despite what the doctors said, I got completely better within 5 months.
18 months ago I had a back spasm; since then I have had almost every imaginable pain in my back and dosn my left leg. I read Dr, Sarno's books and see my problem. I was almost pain free 4 days before my 5oth b'day when I had a leg cramp that has gotten progresively worse. When I stand for more than 10 minutes my leg goes wild with intense cramping in the knee and calf area. I believe it's all in my head brought on by stress and aging syndromes. But I can't shake it!
Any advice?

Welcome to the board--you'll find lots of useful information and supportive people here.

Sometimes just accepting Dr. Sarno's theory is not all that it takes to get rid of the pain. Some of us need to examine the underlying emotions more closely, possibly through therapy, if that's available to you. But a good way to get started is to read through some of the previous threads here. It's encouraging to see that others have overcome the same sorts of pains, and the many experiences and insights that are shared here can help you develop the habit of looking for the psychological causes of the pain.

If you haven't yet read Dr. Sarno's book called "The Divided Mind," it outlines how to begin looking at the psychological issues, using journaling. But there is also lots of advice here on the forum about using journaling as a tool.
