Posted - 11/06/2004 : 21:18:21 About 3 years ago I had terrible back pain and after reading Sarno's book, I concluded that it was TMS. It took me about 8 month to get rid of my lower back pain, but I did it. It was a horrible experience, but I pulled it out. As the pain began to slowly go away, I found that my contact lenses began to give my problems. My eyes would dry out at a certain point in the day and the lenses would pop out. This has been going on for about a year. It is gradually getting better, to the point where I can almost wear my lenses again. Unfortunately, just last sunday as I was lifting weights, my back pain came back with a vengeance. Prior to this my lower back has been absolutely pain free. I also have very bad gastrointestinal issues, that seem to fluctuate in degree along with my other problems I feel all my problems are somehow connected with my back pain. As ridiculous as this may sound, I have also experienced a change in every joint in my body. The sensation that I get when I crack my knuckles has changed dramatically. I have a very crunchy sensation in all my joints, which is not painfull at all. I have come to the conclusion that this change in my joints is a sign that I am dealing with my stress better, but I am perplexed as to why my back pain is back with so much strength. I am sure that it is TMS, but I would like to know if anyone can relate to me anything similar to what I am going through. Especially about the change in sensation in my joints. |

I would recommend reviewing page 26 of MBP. This is the Holmes-Rahe list of the 43 stressful life events that Sarno says can cause TMS. Are any of these events occuring presently in your life that are triggering your current TMS physical symptoms? |

Posted - 11/06/2004 : 22:51:31 The back pain is likely related to some emotional feeling that is unconscious, but trying to surface. I find that visualizing and spending time journaling helps me get closer to the emotional issue (though not always successfully pinpointing it). I don't know what to say about the joint issue.....KLC |
