I am new to the forum and have just finished "Healing Back Pain" about a week ago. I am happy to say that I have had a significant releif in pain and have developed a much greater range of motion. I have also begun to work out again (which by the way has never failed to take the pain away once I have finished)

My question though is if anyone else has what I guess I could describe as lockups in there back where they try to releive the pain by cracking their own back or popping their own hip? If so would this be considered a bad thing.

And what exactly is the popping and cracking if nothing is structurally wrong. I believe that nothing is wrong more than normal wear but I dont understand the popping.

Is the popping detrimental to TMS healing? Any advice would help.

Chad

I even had an osteopath tell me that this behavior was basically conditioned and didn't help anything. Unfortunately I still do it if I feel stiff, even though I know it's TMS! But it's a good thing to avoid. Like sensei said, the fact that the joints pop isn't meaningful physically.

Trying to perform any physical treatment on yourself, including self popping of a hip or back is not only a waste of time, it is also contrary to TMS treatment theory. Performing a physical treatment supposes a physical cause, which is a knowledge therapy NO NO. I used to do this all the time and swore it did some good for my pain. It was merely a conditioned response and actually became part of the syndrome. I recommend breaking yourself of the habit.

The actual sound is referred to as crepitus by some doctors and more commonly, cavitation. It is a harmless process associated with all joints.

Welcome to the forum and my best to you - Sensei
