Posted - 06/02/2007 : 08:11:46 Now this is a new one..After wearing a pair of sandles all day that I haven't worn for a long time I started having left foot pain..On the top of my foot, bottom of the leg on the inside..and some swelling under the ankle bone on the inside..then generalized ankle swelling after being on my feet and sitting too long..Is it the shoes? It could be the extra weight I gained since wearing these shoes..my body is not used to carrying this weight..I see some physical swelling..Can TMS cause actual visual localized swelling? This is very frustrating as I am determined to rid myself of any extra pounds and now I cannot do my power walking to make it happen..(at least until this lets up..) Naturally the hypo in me is worrying it's something serious..but..it definitely corresponded to those shoes..I also have various other aches/pains going on intermittently..back, neck, knee..etc...ad nauseum..
Mentally/emotionally I am still going through alot.. Any thoughts would be appreciated.. Hope you are all enjoying your weekend, Karen |

Posted - 06/05/2007 : 13:20:32 Hi Beth, Thanx for your thoughts..It could have something to do with it..but..thankfully I am still being asked for ID when I buy a bottle of wine for a party! So I am not that freaked out about the bday..I think it's more finances, living in LV, etc..But I will give what you suggested some serious thought..Hope all is well with you.. Take care, Karen
Vicki, That was the funniest conversation I ever had on here! I still think about it too!! You really brightened up my day! Humor is so healing..:) Hope you are doing well! Hugs, Karen
Newmom, I didn't gain that much weight..so it is probably not the weight..Since I started this post my foot is feeling better and the pain is travelling about like it does w/ TMS..The foot isn't 100 percent but I am also adjusting to brand new sneakers and on my feet more these days..I understand and empathize with your frustration..For me, the weight issue is 100 percent emotional..When I feel better, I take better care of me and any excess falls off..thank God.. Take care! Karen |

Posted - 06/05/2007 : 11:43:53 Karen, I always like when somebody tells me something without putting sugar on it. So here it is. HOW MUCH weight did you gain? Are your sandals that tight that they are cutting off circulation in your foot? Why does only your left foot hurt? Is there more weight on that side of your body?
I gained a lot of weight with my pregnancy and then immediately afterwards I continued to gain weight when I did nothing trying to "heal my back" per my doctor's orders. At least 70 pounds. That's 70 pounds in just under 1 year. That is an extreme weight gain in that short of time. I still have not lost most of it. Not one pair of my shoes caused my feet to do this, and the weight certainly doesn't cause my feet to do this. (When I was pregnant with the water weight, it was a different story.) I started out a tiny person and ended up being a plus sized person. THAT IS MY REAL PROBLEM. I AM SO ANGRY ABOUT THIS WEIGHT. I get so frustrated that I cannot get back to my old self.

That still cracks me up.
You take care,

Posted - 06/05/2007 : 10:24:55 Hi Karen,
I would think that a birthday coming up with a "Round Number" might be a TMS trigger. I bet if you started journaling with "Regarding my upcoming Birthday, I feel . . . " your foot pain might just go away.
Just a thought.
Best Wishes,
Beth |

Posted - 06/03/2007 : 05:54:46 "Another common place is the foot and ankle, either the top or bottom of the foot, or the Achilles tendon. Common foot diagnoses are neuroma, bone spur, plantar fasciitis, flat feet and trauma due to excessive physical activity." - Healing Back Pain pag 15
and
"Neuroma
Another TMS tendonalgia attributed to something else is found in the fore part of the bottom of the foot. Pain is usually in the metatarsal region and is almost always blamed on a neuroma, which is a benign tumor. The pain goes with TMS treatment.
Plantar Fasciitis
The pain in plantar fasciitis is located on the bottom of the foot along the length of the arch. Although they are often vague about cause, doctors may ascribe this pain to inflammation. The area is usually very tender to palpation and seems quite clearly to be a manifestation of TMS." - Healing Back Pain - pahe 112

Posted - 06/02/2007 : 20:53:08 Thanx Littlebird and Penny!! It always helps to know I am not alone with these symptoms..especially when a brand new one decides to crop up out of nowhere..The hard part is that it did seem to correspond to my wearing those sandles instead of my usual, running shoes..It happened the same day..That makes me worry it's structural..but then again..the TMS Gremlin is very smart at tricking us..I am also PMSing hard core this month and I read that that can cause temporary ankle swelling too..The one ankle (left) has an area that is sore to the touch too..But I didn't fall, twist or anything other then wear those shoes I haven't worn in awhile and walk around in them..Guess I am still not totally convinced it's TMS..but I am working on it..that's why I posted..:)) Hugs, ~Karen |

Posted - 06/02/2007 : 19:11:38 HI Karen, Yes, I've had foot/ankle swelling that is TMS. Now when it happens I don't run to the doctor to be tested for UTI like I used to: Instead I reach for my journal and my dayrunner to see what's going on in my life that is causing it. I also get puffy eyes sometimes too.
Kudos to you for recognizing that this is INDEED a new sx of TMS for you! Chase them all out!!!!!!!!!

Posted - 06/02/2007 : 18:51:56 Karen, I've had episodes of swelling that were definitely TMS. I also had to give up several pairs of shoes due to TMS pain, and when I stopped having some of the symptoms in my feet and legs, after starting the TMS work, then I was able to go back to wearing those shoes again with no problem.
As for weight gain, when my weight was up and down by 50 pounds it didn't make a whole lot of difference to my feet and legs, but I was younger then, so I don't know if that helped me cope with the weight fluctuations better than I would if my weight was changing now that I'm older.
It seems much more likely to me that this is a TMS attack, rather than a serious structural kind of thing, but only you can really decide how to view it. Hope you'll have relief soon. |
