Posted - 05/24/2007 : 12:28:45 Thanks for responding! Re: a little history - in the summer of '04 I had surgery for frozen shoulder/torn cuff. They brought a chair to my house with a robotic arm that was to keep the shoulder moving, post op. While getting into the chair one day at the end of July, I broke my foot on the metal base. Couldn't use crutches, arm in a sling. Got a walking cast. Man, what a mess. Don't EVER wear one of those and go without a shoe on the other foot. I did, and it resulted in a crooked gait. 2 weeks in, my back began to hurt. Fast forward almost 3 yrs: I have had chiropractic care, have seen several PTs, infusion therapy from my rheumatologist (must be arthritis, right?) "pain management"w/ injections, acupuncture and surgery last Fall. The MRI said Spinal Stenosis so I had a laminectomy or decompression. Sound like TMS?! I sure think so, the pain remains in spite of all that plus Methododone and Morphine. I read Dr. Sarno's book starting Friday 2 weeks ago and I absolutely believe what he is saying. It makes perfect sense to me. I am reading it AGAIN. My life has shrunk into this tiny little box, can't move to do anything. The pain can be so crippling. So what do you think? Thanks for all your time. Mary |

Posted - 05/25/2007 : 02:58:16 Ladybug, Good luck and enjoy the links others have given you! I am grateful to your posting because it led others to post some great stories. Thanks Shawnsmith for Baseball's story. I always feel a little nervous before travelling abroad/out of my comfort zone and this always leads to a few niggles/pains. I am flying out later today. I think its the fear that TMS can mess things up as I love travelling but reading Baseball's success story makes me feel more upbeat.

You have TMS my dear and all that pain you have has nothing to do with your injuries. Read Baseball's story at:
http://www.tmshelp.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1836
Then read this and see if you fit the profile:

Posted - 05/24/2007 : 16:54:23 HI LadyBug.
Oh Sweetie!!!! Yes, it sounds --ALL of it--sounds like TMS. I'm so sorry you went through all of that, but I am so glad you found Sarno's work. Be patient and follow all the steps and you will get better! In case you haven't seen it, here is a super link that a member of our forum has created. It has lots of journaling advice, free audio programs, and other good and helpful stuff to help you get better. http://www.etex.net/kelving/
For me, I ended up restructuring a lot of my life, as I realized that many people and commitments were a HUGE source of angst and TMS for me. I haven't divorced my family, but many "friends" are no longer on my call list. For me small changes in my life helped, but the bigger (tougher) ones have made the most difference.
Take sweet care and all the best to you on your journey out of the little box.

Posted - 05/24/2007 : 14:18:45 Hi Mary,
I wish you all the best. I know what you mean by life shrinking into a box. My symptoms weren't as bad as yours but things kept creeping up on me and restricting me further. I've recovered now. Some people recover quickly, others take more time.
I look forward to hearing about your recovery.
If you want to read about other people's recoveries, search on "Success Story", but with no space between the words. This tag has only been used for about a year, so there are lots of older success stories as well.
All the best,
Hilary N |
