Well, so far no luck with my attempt to get this latest attack (psoriasis) under control, guess i should be more patient but feeling like crap tends to make me want progress. I dug up an old jouranl and it made me realize my 'resevoir' is probably very full, which has me thinking i may need outside help. Unfotunately i dont think anyone in the state of Colorado (where i live) knows anything about TMS. I tried to reach Sarno to see if they have any contacts, but just got a recording. Anyone with any ideas of how i might find someone (physician/therapist etc) in my area?? |

Hey Stanfr,
Did you consider that your headache, sore throat, restless sleep, and current anxiety are all replacements for the original TMS sysmptoms?
I really think they are! It says to me you're starting to attack the problems! Keep at it! Best of luck. You WILL get there!

Im in the Denver area, so TX is a little far 
I tried the google approach and there is one therapist that came up for denver, Mileah Koudele, who apparently does TMS work.
Anyhow thanks for the suggestions; im pretty familiar with what to do in terms of thinking psychologically etc, i tried obsessing over the different issues yesterday and ended up with a headache and sore throat last night, restless sleep, and i feel like a nervous wreck now. This is not what i experienced last time i had to deal with TMS (back pain and CPS) so it has me pretty concerned, and it's becoming
a vicious cycle. |

Stanfr, I live in metro Denver and wasn't able to find a TMS doctor. I have to admit, however, that given my overall distrust of MD's in general, I didn't try very hard. If you look in the phonebook under Physicians, there may still be an ad for referrals. I've called that number in the past and had luck in locating a few holistic physicians (which, by the way, is an oxymoron). Anyway you could ask the referrals service if they have any TMS practitioners who have listed with them.
I had no trouble bypassing the MD route and have done quite well in getting rid of my TMS on my own just by reading, journaling, and being an active part of this forum. I'm not 100 percent yet, but I'm getting there. Regarding your psoriasis, you might consider a garden-variety dermatologist as an interim measure. They should be able to prescribe something that will alleviate the problem long enough for you to get to the root of your TMS. |

Wow, these are pretty far from you. I highly recommend Dr. Sklar; I've seen him. But that's quite a trip from where you are. Where in Colorado are you?
In terms of finding a therapist, I'm thinking someone in the Denver metro area is likely to at least be familiar with the mindbody concept (perhaps not Sarno's theory/method, specifically) and may be open to reading Sarno and incorporating his approach into their own. Sarno recommends a psychodynamic-oriented (rather than cognative-behavoral) psychotherapist. From my understanding, this type is included under the umbrella of psychoanalysis (freudian). I think there is a provider locator on the website of the American Psychoanalytic Association. Otherwise you can try googling a therapist--this is how I found mine. She had a great website, and was already familiar with mindbody philosophy. She agreed to learn about sarno and we went from there. I would do a search that includes "denver" (or wherever you are), "psychodynamic," "mindbody," "therapist," etc., or some combination of the above.
Locating a doctor who knowledgeable about TMS in your immediate area may be more difficult...
