When you read "The Mindbody Prescription" you'll find Dr Sarno mentions many of his patients also have IBS.

Posted - 04/05/2007 : 07:56:13 Interesting read. I never realised that Eczema and things could be psychosomatic in origin. I've suffered with IBS since I was 17 and I think this is also linked to stress/anxiety etc. |

Posted - 04/04/2007 : 19:49:04 I must agree that chronic skin problems are probably TMS. I had allergies and skin stuff as a kid and it was blamed on food...I now think that was hogwash. I eat whatever I like and only TMS stress seems to trigger things. The TMS treatment is really handy for me... now when I start to get hayfever or dust allergies ro skin rashes, I can turn off the trigger by doing TMS work and telling my body that that is old stuff coming up and that nothing is wrong. My body usually obeys. I even think I am getting over my allergy to wool this way. Old pathways can be fought and it is a wonderful thing for me.
This is not to say that if you wear sweaty clothes for three days and don't take a bath, you won't get a real rash. That is not TMS.
Good luck conquering your skin issues...it is very doable. |

Singer_Artist, I used to get eczema which would clear up if I stopped eating certain foods. But I know it was TMS because I had previously eaten those foods without problem. Now I’m back on those foods (dairy, nuts, fruit) – I can eat as much as I want and I don’t have the problem any more.

You beat the back pain. I’m sure you’ll manage the eczema, too.

Hi Allen_Non,
TMS is universal and part of the human condition. We all are subceptible to it, have had it or will get it at some time or another.
It seems to me that being stuffed into a dark cramped space, all alone for nine months with no TV or cell phone could be quite a TMS pressure cooker.

Posted - 04/04/2007 : 05:32:34 Question on the exzema- My 10 year old daughter has had mild exzema since she was about 18 months old. It's generally limited to inside of her elbow & knee creases, and tends to be seasonal. Not disputing, just asking- Can (and if so, how can) the exzema of an 18 month old be related to TMS?
She does have the personality traits (perfectionist) now which will probably pre-dispose her for some TMS later on, and I'm working with her to help her learn how to not "bottle things up". But the exzema started way before she could have begun the "stuffing" process.

Singer, Im glad you asked. Basically when I hit about 18-19yrs old i was sitting on the floor playing with my dog when I felt this horrible most horrible pain in my buttock where I could not move. Never having back pain before I just said to myself i just twisted something im fine. The next full year i was in such bad pain at 19 years old i could no longer walk. I tried everything from physical therapy, acupuncture, stretching, the machine that actually stretched your body, exercises, not sitting for a while and the list can go on. I took many medications including vioxx which is off the market now. i went to millions of doctors which included, a chiropractor, bone doctor, neurologist, i got millions of test done to see if i have athritis because my legs would judt hurt me sometimes for no reason. They gave me endless MRIs and a test that they still u in a MRI and inject a needle in you with dye to see if the blood isnt going to my legs. I had sciatica in one leg then 2years later in both legs. the buttock pain would go into spasm if i laid on my back that was the worse i was so frightened of my pain i missed lots of school etc. Anyway I live in new york and my mother was watching the discovery channel one day and came across people that were healed 100% of back pain. So at this point i said i would try anything im desperate. So I gave him a call and he was extremely nice and asked me a few questions over the phone and i got an appointment. Than I saw him very soon after that and what he did was he gave me a physical exam to make sure it wasn't something worse causing the problem which it wasn't and he diagnosed me with TMS. Now before I went to see him I did read his books and felt better but for me I felt I needed the diagnosis.
I had to go see him in a lecture for 2 hours and than a month passed and i was better but not completely. I was still afraid of the pain (which he states in his book that means u are not healed if u are still afraid) so then i went to one of the monthly meetings he holds where people speak of how they are cured. And all i had to do was go to one for encouragement and i rid my pain. Im talking about pain I never thought could get any better not in the slightest bit. Pain that I cried over for 2 years. As of now I am no longer afraid of the pain and when it comes back (which is rare) I get rid of it in 4 minutes. I also journaled but not for longer then 2 months. Now I just dont have pain anymore. AT ALL im cured. I would even go back to Sarnos meetings and be the one to talk to the people and encourage them they will heal. I love telling people that it can happen but to just do the work. I haven't seen him since the last lecture which was about 2 years ago.
I am healed. Completely. I used to talk on this forum every single day. I just recently came on after a year to let everyone know that it is possible and to not give up. I know the pain your in. Email me talk to me do what u have to if i can help you i will.
I am 22 years old now. And pain free. |

Posted - 04/02/2007 : 21:56:01 Hi Jena, I have had psoriasis since I was a teen..I am not 100 percent sure it is a TMS equivalent..Some say it's genetic, some says it's diet..I have noticed it gets worse under extreme stress..but it seems to be more related to what I am eating..If I stay away from dairy, wheat, sugar and junk food within a couple of months it clears up..Don't think it's conditioning..i do think it has to do w/ my being allergic to these foods..
If you don't mind, I would love to hear your story of seeing Dr. Sarno and how you healed from the sciatica.. Take care, Karen |

Posted - 04/02/2007 : 21:07:56 Skin issues, including eczema, are TMS. Treat them as such. When I have skin flare-ups, which include itchiness that drives me practically to madness, I use a little cortizone cream or thick lotion (like Eucerin), sparingly, just to take the edge off. It makes it easier to maintain a state of mindfulness and do the TMS work when you aren't distracted by the physical discomfort. (I've found that all the prescription creams, washes, etc. either don't work or make the problem worse. Allergy pills help me to a degree, but it seems like either my body is becomming resistant/immune to them or my mind/TMS has figured things out.)

Posted - 04/02/2007 : 10:30:28 I developed terrible, full-body exzcema a few years ago...interestingly enough,it was right after I began seeing a therapist to deal with some issues.
Allegra eventually made it more manageable, and I stopped taking it eventually. The eczema seemed to go away on its own after about 2 years...maybe because I shifted my focus to other TMS issues (arm and shoulder pain...I've had all sorts of TMS-related symptoms that have arisen out of basically nowhere--fascinating). |

Posted - 03/31/2007 : 18:40:11 Eczema is the immune system overreacting (via inflammation) for no legitimate reason; i.e., an allergy. I believe allergies are TMS. No other explanation makes sense given the millions of years the human immune system has been evolving.
Sarno himself has ridded himself of seasonal allergies via the TMS approach. |
