Not sure what the correct terminology is, but I had TMS for a couple of months where I was on disability for lower back pain. I was bed ridden and my husband was carrying me to the bathroom. Doctors at the Cleveland Clinic were ready to operate, but I was afraid of such a permanent "fix". My husband insisted that we go to the bookstore, b/c I hadn't been out of the house except for dr appts and I actually was lying down on the floor of the bookstore in one of the aisles. I turned to my right and saw "Healing Back Pain". I read it right there and ONE WEEK LATER I was back at work...

Since this recovery I have had 3 or 4 episodes that have lasted a week max, but this one is going on 2 weeks. I am miserable and just trying to remember the mindset that cured me in the past. I am very stressed b/c of work pressures, home pressures, etc. I know that. Why is this continuing to happen?

If anyone has any advice on how to jump-start an episode recovery, I'd greatly appreciative it.

Linda

Thank you for these suggestions. I did start a journal, but now that I've gotten down what i iknow is the reason for the stress (I did something bad), I still feel it.

I will pick up the Divided mind - maybe Amazon it now.

I read on another post that it is good to almost criticize the pain. THis is helpful to me, because mine can be excruciating one second and nothing the next. That is just ridiculous mindgames and should be acknowledged as such.

Go back to the bookstore and pick up the Good Doctor's latest,
THE DIVIDED MIND, it's his best yet!

Linda, if this happened to me, I would make a list of things bothering (pressuring) me and start writing essays on them right away to let go of the anger pressure creates. I would make sure I feel the feelings, whatever they are, anger, sad, guilty, fear, and set realistic expectations for myself.
I found writing about these things the most powerful because then I could let go. I still write a few times a week just to clear my head and I always feel great when I'm finished.
Hoping you're pain-free soon.

Best wishes,
-Lori

I'm in the midst of my most massive "flare-up" myself.

Try to go back and look at what worked for you before. Also, don't be afraid to break new ground and try to explore things that you haven't given thought to yet.

Try journaling.

Try making a list of all the reasons you think your pain is TMS and not physical. I find these lists grow over time and become tools in themselves towards healing. When you see a column of 20 things all saying that your pain can't be caused by anything but TMS... it's very effective.

If it persists, try psychotherapy. You may try it and find that you need a few sessions or you may like it and persist.
