I have been successful using Dr. Sarno's techniques for several years.

On December 7 I had knee surgery for a micro-fracture of the femur (structural). I treated the knee pain as TMS for 3 months before finally getting the tests and it was confirmed it was structural.

I developed blood clots behind the knee and in my calf. I was put on blood thinners immediately. Anyone who has been on thinners knows you have to have your blood tested often to make sure the dose is correct. I also learned how dangerous they could be.

I have consistently tested low, even with a very high dose of thinner. In fact, they will not increase the dose because it would be too dangerous. Average person coagulates in 2.5-3.5 seconds. My coagulation time is between 1.2-1.6 seconds. Thick blood. I know nothing about "hypercoagulism" and can't see the specialist until mid-March, his first open appointment.

Months before the surgery I started to get very stiff and sore, pretty much all the time. I kept running, exercising, stretching, because it felt better, and because I BELIEVED it was TMS. Now I'm beginning to wonder if it isn't the thick blood. (I'm still stiff and sore all the time.)

To make matters worse, I just read a medical article that links "thick blood" to chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalsia - two conditions that I BELIEVE are TMS.

But if there is scientific evidence that people who have been diagnosed with CFS and FM ALSO have thick blood, what am I to think? Is my blood pulling a fast one on me? I'm scared to death to stop the thinners with the attitude that "It's just TMS", and then end up dead because of a clot.

I'm so frustrated with this whole thing, I wish I'd NEVER had the surgery. I suppose it was a good thing, since I had the clots and they found them.

Just to clarify, I have NOT been diagnosed with CFS or fibro, only hypercoagulation of my blood (and they're still trying to figure out why). What I DO NOT want is some doctor to tell me that I DO have CFS or fibro BECAUSE of the blood, because I'll have to tell him/her I don't belive it.

Thanks for your replies.

I agree with the others. I know first hand how terrible fibro pain is (not that it is any worse than any other) and you grasp for reasons why you hurt and why you feel so bad. If I were you I would stick with Sarno as far as the aches and pains at least with regards to the thick blood. I say that not because I am an expert, but becasue I know 2 people that have a blood disorder that causes irregular thickening of the blood. They go once a week to have some of their blood drawn "off". Both of these people live normal lives without all of the pain like the rest of us have. Please take this as it is meant and that is to help reaffirm TMS not to be a know it all.

By the way to all, I am 2 weeks into this and I played basketball (nothing intense just a friendly game half-court not alot of running)with a group at church the other day. It was wonderful. I did not know I was that out of shape, it was really sad. Today is 2 days later and muscles I did not know I had are really sore and the TMS (fibro for me) is flaring but I KNOW that is from the stressful day I had yesterday and today. I am working on that.

Michele,

I agree with TT. My opinion would be to continue your medicines, BUT treat your stiffness as TMS. It might help to overcome the obsessive thoughts about whether the fibro is caused by thick blood etc.

For the purposes of this board CFS and Fibro are TMS equivalents and are caused by the same source as all other TMS symptoms, the unconscious.

This is the article I read:

No, I won't stop taking the thinners, even though I HATE them!! Note that patients were given 1-2.5 mg of coumadin (warfarin) daily, some for up to a year. MY dose right now is 12 mg. and they wanted to up it to 15 mg, but weren't comfortable with that amount. Even with that high dose, it is not thinning the blood.

I guess what I'm trying to ascertain is that IS IT POSSIBLE, that thick blood may be behind my pain/stiffness for the past months and if so, how could TMS practice help me, since it appears to be structural. It's actually been making me crazy because I eat right, exercise, no coffee, pop, get enough sleep, journal, meditate, see a therapist, and I STILL had overall pain. Frustrated is an understatement.
