Honestly, I read that post for the first time yesterday and it was at the top of the message board, which gave me the impression it was a recent post, and then I went back to find it and it was gone. Expressions of conscious anger does not negate the presence of unconscious anger- Sarno 101. But you still have avoided answering my question which makes me suspect I have hit a nerve.

I was not offended in the least. The point of my posting was to invite you to explore your feelings (especially possible unconscious ones) about the ads being posted on this forum. I would have posted it on the proper thread but when I went back to look for it then it was gone.

Instead of attempting to prevent referfire from posting his personal product on the website, you might want to examine why you react they way you do to such ads. In other words, what is it about your personality that makes you angry when you see such ads?

And here are some possible explanations, from a TMS perspective:
1) Wanting to control the situation but unable to
2) Hidden jealousy because you do not have a product to sell
3) His user name or product reminds you of something or someone who angered you in the past
4) You were a hall monitor in elementary school and you also demanded that people play by the rules
Think outside the box and don't just focus on the immediate emotion. Ask instead, "why am I really angry?"

As religion applies to this board, it's not the Christians, (I'm not one by the way), that are doing the attacking, it's the new-age seculatist's attcking them. The mere mention of words such as "belief", "faith", or "spirituality", triggers virulent attack, but only if those words seem to appear in a Christian context. Annecdotely, I havn't seen this same virulence against Muslims, Buddhists or Jews, or any other faith for that matter.
I'm no expert on world religion, but it seems all religions have an aspect to them that deals with pain and suffering. For example Christian Science deals with mind-healing. I have witnessed Hindu "healers" in Bali apply medications, (the delievery method being chewing and spitting the unguent onto the body part).
Many hospitals were founded, funded, and have religious names, i.e., St. Jude's, Beth Israel, St. Francis, St. Joseph's, Mt. Zion, St. Mary's, Cedar Sinai, etc,.
In our "secular" culture, the priests who deliver the "true" truth are called "scientists", (no particular one--the title "scientist" is sufficient) and their emisaries wear white-coats to signify their power and authority. |

I think what many Christians are wary of is not psychology per se, but what they refer to as "new age" thinking. Such people, to name a few only, like Deepak Chopra, who inserts a lot of Hindu teachings into his work, Esther & Jerry Hicks, who talk about communicating with spiritual beings from beyond and Ekhart Toole, who has been influenced by the writings of Meister Eckhart, Advaita Vedanta, A Course in Miracles and Zen Buddhism's Lin-chi (Rinzai) school, as well as some of his unorthodox interprets of the sayings of Jesus from the Bible. Many Christians see such teachings as a secular form of religion and thus heretical for there is no emphasis on personal salvation, as taught by Christianity. People like Byron Katie and Dr. John E Sarno, however, do not get into metaphysical questions and I fail to see how any Christian, of any persuasion, would be offended by their teachings unless they are really on the radical fringe or wrongfully associate them with New Age thinking.

Found a great book at my fitness center called Mind/Body Health The Effects of Attitudes, Emotions, and Relationships. Talks about how many ailments are emotionally induced; really incredible. But on topic with this string, also talks about how important spirituality (not necessarily religion) is in our healing and well-being.

"I've had his book since it first came out and oh how I enjoy the fact that he acknowledges the fact that we are not just Mind/Body...but that we are Mind/Body/Spirit. That is what has been missing from all of Dr. Sarno's books/materials for me. I'd say that is an important thing to leave out to someone that is a born again Christian, as I am. It's also something that this board shys away from discussing but I know why and respect the rules of this board that we all should attain to."

Don't let the PC police dissuade you from interjecting anything here that you feel is relevant to TMS "healing". Last time I looked, the First Amendment was still alive and we still have freedom of speech for everyone. The only censor here is Dave. If we can discuss all forms of philosophy and voo-doo here why would it be verboten to discuss TMS and Christianity, one of the great religions of the world?
Even Dr. Sarno alludes to a "celestial being".

Kelvin, your contribution to TMS sufferers with the information in your post is probably the best source I've ever seen or read on this forum. Every single person who feels they have TMS should carefully read and access the information you have provided. I've read the Sarno books, not been fortunate enough to be in an area (Louisville, KY and St. Louis, MO) where there is a single TMS doctor, so I've been forced to struggle on alone. Your material was the greatest help I've found. I do use the Sarno books, Schecter tapes every day also, but the journaling pages from Dr. Rochelle are so very valuable. Thanks for a great post!

That 'article' from Harvard-Radcliffe is a great summary and handy to have around when I can't have the Sarno book in hand. Also, it would be very handy to give to the Dr. when explaining about Sarno. They could take the printout and read it if they wanted. Thanx.
