Hey, everyone,

I know this is probably a weird question to ask but has anyone out there been told they have physical symptoms due to mercury in their dental fillings? Two days ago I was given what I believe to be a sales pitch by my dentist's office. They had me convinced to book myself an appointment to begin removal of my old dental fillings because they claim the mercury can cause a whole slew of problems including fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, etc. They asked me if I ever had any of these and I said "At one point I thought I might have fibromyalgia..." and before I could finish they asked "Oh, did you have non-refreshing sleep or pain in your joints?" I never even tried to explain Dr. Sarno's book and the fact that he believes fibromyalgia is TMS. These people are clearly looking to close the deal, so to speak. I set up an appointment for this Thursday and then cancelled it. I'm a dentist phobic anyway, but until I have some clear facts to back up what they are telling me I think I should postpone it. Any thoughts? I appreciate anyone's input.

Just to chime in here. Metal and heavy metal poisoning are very real, how could anyone not agree with this PROVEN medical/ scientific fact?

Not saying it's responsible for your pain, that's another issue altogether. But why would anyone want mercury in their body to begin with? You ever seen Mercury fillings after being scrubbed and examined under certain filters?

You sure about there being no effects?

Hi,

Just to tell you that I am on my way to replace my mercury fillings (12 of them)...After results of my hair analysis (I wrote about this couple of weeks ago) I went to check my blood for mercury, and they found high levels of mercury...I am not saying I do not beleive I have TMS, but I will do replacement anyways.
BTW, my dentist was always saying it's up to you, he never suggested or insisted onn replacement.

Quote By Dr. Sarno
quote:

One theory of how TMS works tells us that it is a defensive reaction of the mind to prevent expression of repressed rage and anxiety and that the pain is created when blood flow to the tissues is restricted by the autonomic nervous system.

Not that this is already an open can of worms,
I just wanted to expose us to the reality and the relationship of how sensitive our bodies are to insults to the autonomic nervous system. And how easily through toxic exposure, our central nervous system can be damaged, effecting many health conditions that today we are facing in our society at epidemic rates.

How many of you know children diagnosed with Autoimmune disorders?
Such as: ADD, ADHD, PDD, AUTISM, ASPERGERS and RHETT SYDROME, and any other that fit under the umbrella. Or how about some other Diagnosis that has a learning disability attached to it?
What about the high rates of, ALLERGIES, ASTHMA, and many other illness that involve the Auto immune system?

We have all learned how easy our bodies can take repressed emotions and create a physical manifestation, and how this is blind to the eye of treatment in the mainstream medical community.
That is why they continue to treat the symptoms of an underlying condition, rather than treating a person as a whole. None of this way of thinking is new to a TMS disciple who believes in a mind body approach is controlled through the autonomic nervous system that Sarno mentions above.

Again I am not saying that TMS is a result of heavy metal and mercury toxic exposure.

This is FYI only, to those who are interested in learning about such exposure and the effects that are detrimental to all of our health
.

How about?
Scams, Quacks, the main stream medical community in relationship with reality, call it what you want
.

A couple of facts,

Than you can take it any way
Is it to be a serious issue to look at?
Or another crazy TMS’ er going on his own rant!

You can heed the warning or laugh and scoff, I have no more to say after this.
.

Fact

97 out of 100 attributes, side effects, and chronic conditions of Autism and MANY OTHER SO-CALLED NEOROLOGICAL DISORDERS match those of mercury poisoning.

Fact
80 % of the WORLDS medical research is supported from the USA, in which the major drug companies fund this research. Now you see the power, influence and agenda that plays a role into what is disclosed to the public as well as easily accessed and printed by the media.
And of course we know that the main stream medical community also has ties to the major drug companies. This is how they practice medicine, and their views for many reasons MUST be in line with the popular view, or they would be in jeopardy of malpractice and the lawsuits that they fear the most.

Fact
The main reason why the mainstream doctors avoid the research that verifies heavy metal toxic exposure is:
1. A major cover-up about to be uncovered.
2. Your blood continues to purify your body therefore you would not see traces of mercury in your blood unless you were recently exposed to it, as a means of ingesting it.

Mercury ingested verses injected.

Fact

If you ingest a poison your body has a fighting chance to detoxify it self by means of attacking the foreign matter by your automatic defenses in your immune system.
However if you inject this, into your body, it bypasses the digestive track and within two hours it is already at the cellular level and the major organs of your body. (Btw -The brain is a major organ of the body)

Fact
Mercury in the presence of other heavy metals becomes many times more toxic.

Fact
In 1995
The EPA as well as the FDA warned the major drug companies about the current amount of thirmasol that was in the vaccination schedule was already over safe limits.

How could this be?

Fact
In the same year we were taken lead out of our paint and water, they were adding mercury into the vaccination schedule.
Also this schedule has increased from 8 to 20 inoculations by the time a child is 6 MONTHS OLD.
How could this be?

Fact
The vaccination schedule that we currently have is mandated in the USA, but NOT MANDITORY.
Every state in the United States has EXEMPTIONS. I wonder why? ………(Look for your self)
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS, because know one will ever tell you.

Fact
Thirmasol IS NOT OUT OF ALL OF THE CURENT CHILDHOOD VACINATIONS.

These are all hot topics that are currently being investigated as well as the laws that are changing for the future removal of thermasol out of ALL drugs.
This is not scheduled to happen until around 2008 – 2010 in adult vaccinations.
The state of California the pioneer of environmental awareness has just passes a law to remove this from all childhood vaccinations by 2005.

Fact
They have already removed mercury from many drugs and medical remedies such as eardrops, nose spray, and eye drops.
I wonder why- Crazy isn’t it?

Hey do you know what other heavy metals are in the products you put on your skin?
A topical use turn into transdermal when it seeps into your bloodstream doesn’t it?
Take a look at the labels see for your self, you would be surprised what is in so many products.

Why do you think you even get a warning label on the electrical wire of a set of Christmas lights?
Hmmmm…….. Must be some reason for such a warning.
Naa!!!!……… Those Californians are just quacks and scam artists.

This is not new news on mercury, since the thirties Mercury was widely known as a neorotoxin

I believ metal toxicity is very real and so is mercury toxicity. I am a huge fan of Sarno, a current patient of his and have been helped a great deal by him. I agree that many many problems can be attributed to TMS. But to believe that everything is TMS is not in one's best interest either. The best approach is to research as much as possible and make your own informed decision. I know several people whose chronic health problems cleared up when they had their amalgam fillings removed. As for Quackwatch, have you read the site throughly?? This guy thinks all alternative medicine is a bunch of BS. This is closed minded in my book. There are many health problems that any mainstream medical doctor will not acknowledge. Yeast problems and parasites to name a few. Alternative medicine in its various forms have helped millions of people overcome chronic health problems and should not be dismissed.
As for the mercury issue, do a little research before you dismiss it as nonsense and then make an informed decision. As with any issue there are those that believe in it and those that think its "quackery". Both sides can provide convincing evidence to support their case most times.

A three fold Purpose:

To clear up a long time misunderstanding and make peace with my past,
To warn about the use of Quack watch for valid research.
To inform the reader of the extreme dangers involved in the facts of this topic

Statement: I am not in any way saying that mercury found in dental work as well as the mercury 50% by volume (thirmosal), that is STILL used in many vaccinations as a preservative is causing your TMS and associated symptoms.
Dr Sarno has made a great contribution in all of his work, offering to the public an answer for their chronic pain and suffering, along with an explanation for a host of other TMS equivalents.

However, recently in the last 10-15 years there has been an explosion of Auto immune disease’s being diagnosed, many are at an epidemic rate. The mainstream medical community continues to deny or even look at the possibility that this is due to heavy metal toxicity, which affects the central nervous system from functioning properly. All these disorders are on a metabolic level, controlled by the central nervous system. Many of these disorders have symptoms such as dizziness, Nausea, brain fog, hypertension, anxiety, depression, chronic diarrhea, and constipation, sleep disorders, seizures, and many unexplainable cardiovascular problems, .all the way down to rashes allergies.

Typical mainstream doctors don’t have answers, just like the misdiagnosed TMS sufferer and they continue to treat the symptom rather than isolating the source. Which is due to a toxic overloaded system that inhibits normal body function as well as many chemical pathways blocked in the brain.

In the past while sharing with a fellow TMSer I brought up the topic of heavy metal toxicity in reference to my son, only to get hounded on making such a claim.

I had many debates about using one source of checking information to be the final authority and said it was dangerous to do so. When researching as well as learning we must think openly and use a large amount of research available from well reputable sources that in past have been found to be accurate. We need to also cross check the information of other reputable scientist, teachers, Doctors, historians’ etc…

On one occasion I quoted
quote:
Since when is quack watch a final authority on a subject that is still under investigation not to mention that THE GOVERNMENT HAS CHANGED MANY OF ITS LAWS AND IS SUPPORTING THIS RESEARCH BECAUSE OF THE EVIDENCE PROVIDED. “

THIS FIRST STUDY IS BY A GENETIC SCIENTIST
This was only recently disclosed and WILL NOT be too popular in the news media because of the findings.
It is about to uncover the whole vaccination mercury cover-up. In fact after the drug companies submitted data for this research, they destroyed many of their own documents that this data was taken from.

Oh, my gosh, you guys. I got suckered into the same night guard about 16 years ago, and at that time it cost close to $300. I agree with you that it is about 5o cents worth of plastic but I used it religiously for a long time. One time, I hurled it across the room during a heated argument with my husband and it, of course, broke in half. They don't call it a "splint" for no reason (although the term now is "night guard.") It became like a crutch for me so off I went and had a new one made, cha-ching, cha-ching. Eventually, that one broke as well and I had yet a third one made. (You can see how hooked I became on it because my TMS made me believe I actually needed it.) I tried sleeping without it once or twice but always got a sore jaw.

Eventually, I saw a so called TMJ specialist in L.A. who wanted to do some drastic surgery on me where they insert a titanium piece where your temporomandibular joint is. I was experiencing ringing in ears and he claimed this surgery would solve "all" my problems. This quack told me that he would even do a "mini face lift" while he was in there, since the three hour surgery required cutting near the ear where he could pull the skin back (yikes!!) I left that office and never returned. I turned to yoga and massage and other relaxation techniques but I'm such a Sarno personality that I grind my teeth and hold so much tension in my body it didn't help.

One day, at my daughter's orthodontist appointment, I asked the dentist if he had adult patients because my bottom teeth are crooked (I fell off of the roof of a building when I was a child and injured my jaw and I believe the force of falling made my bottom teeth shift sideways and slope up on one side.) I told the orthodontist I have "TMJ" and he said "I would not put braces on someone with TMJ. In my experience that's like adding fuel to a fire. It really flares up problems." On a different day, I the orthodontist for a referral to a good dentist, thinking the orthodontist would know a reputable dentist. He referred me to my current dentist (several other people have raved about him too) and when I asked him about my jaw he said "The best thing you could do is get braces." Unbelievable!!! Every time I go to this dentist for my routine cleaning I start getting the sales pitch from the hygienists. They clearly work on commission in there or something.

Although I cancelled my appointment to have the mercury fillings removed my husband was convinced that he should still do his (they told him some story about it effecting his gums!) Now, all he talks about is how sore his jaw is. I'm so glad I didn't fall for it! You really need to take these quacky people with a grain of salt.
Burton Posted - 10/09/2004 : 10:58:45
Tennis Tom,
I actually suckered myself into buying that $500 night guard. This happened at the time my TMS pain was at its peak (obviously, before I knew it was TMS) and I was desperate for some explanation as to WHY my entire upper body was in pain. I found the night guard on the internet and its makers claimed that teeth grinding - something I've done since childhood - caused all kinds of muscular imbalances, spasms etc. Their quack theory was, stop the grinding, stop the spasms/pain. Ironically, the thing made me grind my teeth more than ever and made it very difficult to fall into a deep sleep. And of course it had no effect on my TMS pain, not even a brief placebo one.

You're right about the thing being $.50 worth of plastic and it took the dentist about five minutes to customize it for me. Amazingly enough, my health insurance which is legendarily tightfisted covered most of the $499.50 markup. It's still in the very back corner of my bathroom drawer because, I don't know, I hate to throw away a $500 piece of plastic. :) Maybe I could use it for a Halloween costume or something...
tennis tom Posted - 10/09/2004 : 00:29:21
Regarding dentists, I had been going to a dentist for years that was quite professional, then he retired and sold his practice. I tried the new dentist for a year and became dissatisfied and found a new one that I am happy with again. There were several reasons I quit the other one. The hygenist was always lecturing me about flossing and how to brush. I got tired of being chastised by her during my three to four preventative cleanings a year. The hygenist was also always hard selling me on buying a $500 mouth piece to sleep with.
She said I was grinding my teeth at night. I never noticed this or did I really care. She kept insisting I needed it. It's probably 50 cents worth of plastic for $500.

The last straw, was when the I needed (?) a cap for my front tooth. I remember the dentist calling in all the other employees and the technician who made it, to ooh!, and ah!, over what a great job they had done cosmeticaly matching my tooth color, (I could care less). I felt like some horse on exhibition with my mouth wide open. They never asked me what I thought about it.

So the next day I'm out on the tennis court and hit a really big serve and felt something fly out of my mouth. A while later I saw this little white thing half way to the net and sure enough it was the cap. Oh, and I forgot, the temp they put, on came unglued the day after they put it on too.

So I go back and I'm sitting in the chair and they stick a piece of paper in front of me to sign. It says, if the cap comes off again, they would not be responsible for it and I would have to pay for a new one. I signed, (it's kind of hard not to, when someone has a drill to your head). But, right then, and there, I decided to find a new dentist's office. After a year, I'm very happy with the new office. The hygenist has never mentioned anything about me grinding my teeth or needing a night-guard piece. The new dentist has only replaced one old filling. The old dentist lived in a very affluent area and her kids had horses.

Okay, okay! I'm not going back. Florida Boy, your post made me laugh so hard. And to everyone else, you are all so right. I read the article on QuackWatch and there's no way they are coming near me to rip out my fillings. Thank you everyone for helping convince me of what I already sort of knew. I'm now in the process of finding a new dentist!

Laura you should report your experience with this dentist to the Board of Health in your home State. These people don't need to be in the health business.
Kajsa Posted - 10/07/2004 : 05:58:35
I also took away my fillings (in Denmark it was quite a big discussion about fillings some years ago). At that time I had bad fibromyalgia and I do not have to tell you that the improvement of my condition was zero!
Don´ even think about it anymore.
renee Posted - 10/06/2004 : 18:35:28
Laura,
Don't believe that the mercury has anything to do with your pain. I have had years of different TMS symtoms. In 1994, out of desperation, I drove to Colorado and had all my Mercury removed and wasted about $4,500. I received no improvement and wasted a lot of money.
floridaboy Posted - 10/06/2004 : 11:48:41
It is a bunch of hogwash. It is simple chemistry. Saying the mercury compound in tooth fillings can hurt you because "There's mercury in it"...is like saying Table Salt is poison because it has Sodium (Na) and Chlorine (Cl) in it. Both on their own can kill you. "Hey don't drink that water...do you know what Hydrogen can do to you?" Good God!!!

This takes the cake! They should be put out of business. Scare tactics plain and simple. If you let this occupy your brain for 2 more seconds the entire time you are on this earth...it would be a waste.
Laura Posted - 10/06/2004 : 10:35:16
Thank you Susie, Tennis Tom, and Burton. You all have made me feel so much better! I was really starting to think it was me. Tennis Tom, I will definitely read the Quack Watch article. The interesting thing is, the hygienist who was "selling" me on this is a new hygienist who just happens to be trying to get a loan through someone my husband knows. She told my husband she is ready to declare bankruptcy. I really think they must work on cohoots with the dentist and receive some sort of commission and I was just one more person to help meet that quota. Anyway, thank you everyone for making me realize I did the right thing. My feeling on my fillings is "if it aint broke don't fix it."

Burton Posted - 10/06/2004 : 09:24:43
Laura,
Don't fall for it, you were evidently skeptical enough to cancel the appointment so it seems you're already questioning the validity of their claims. I had an old boss, one who was such a crazy-making passive-aggressive goodist/perfectionist, who was obsessed with the idea that her fillings might be causing her fibro-like symptoms.

Now this was irony (not mercury) because this woman, and my reaction to her, were pushing me further and further into fibro-like symptoms. I was so miserable and no idea how to respond to her behavior so I quit on the spot - a decision that I have often regretted because it has sort of haunted me personally and professionally.

But anyways, back to the topic. It wasn't her fillings that were causing her pain. It was the fact that she refused to delegate, or when she did, she refused to trust anyone to perform to her perfectionist standards. She wanted things her way but at the same time she wanted everyone to think she was so sacrificing and lovable etc. She was the once petite but now plus-size middle-aged mother of two thin teenage daughters and also an artist who had basically sold her artistic soul to work for the city because it paid well. TMS? You bet.

You may have to have your old fillings replaced if they begin to deteriorate, I've had one replaced with the new white amalgam material but my dentist did not urge me to replace the others and he is a reputable practicioner.

Good post!

It's times like this I really miss Gary being around . He would have had the web site and page link for www.quackwatch.com "mercury fillings scam", on lickity-split. Instead I am fumbling around in a frenzy of "goodist" computer ineptitude trying to post it. It's not helping that my diabetic cat Pumpkin is trying to help me by walking all over the Dell laptop.

Laura, Suzie's B.S. meter is right on. I did a quick perusal of the above mentioned site QUACKWATCH.COM, and the answer came back: dentists who advise you to remove them are money-grubbing QUACKS QUACKS QUACKS!

Not surpriseingly, this urban legend was popularized by the Fiction News Network, CBS, in a 1990 scare piece, by Morley Safer, on 60 Minutes. I hope you can find the Quackwatch.com site and read the article about "mercury fillings" its quite amusing.

Laura- that sounds like the biggest bunch of B.S. I have ever heard. I would run from that dentist.
