Posted - 07/01/2006 : 18:35:25 One thing that hasn't gotten better with me is my sleeping habits...I wake up a million times a night and very rarely get enough sleep these days...
Even worse, I've had some episodes of sleep walking...I know that's beyond weird, but nonetheless it's happened to me a few times...It started maybe two years ago when I wasn't eating much during the day...I told a friend that it was because I wanted to lose a few poinds, but primarily I wasn't eating as a way to deal with my hypoglycemia, a condition (TMS equivalent no doubt) that requires one to eat a bunch of small meals every day...I decided that the only way off that terrible treadmill (I hated eating all the time) was just to try not eating at all///Counter-intuitive I know, but amazingly it worked..
I'd eat at night, but I evidently wasn't getting enough calories because I was waking up hungry in the night...A few times, I actually kind of sleep walked my way to the kitchen because the next morning the're be open boxes of stuff I couldn't remember eating...needless to say this freaked me out in a major way, so I started to make sure I ate enough so this wouldn't happen anymore, which it didn't..
BUt the basic sleep disturbances remained...And then on top of it all, last night I happened to go to bed hungry and I had another episode I think...
It's all pretty scary and I really need to try to get a handle on this stuff..
I thought I'd throw this out there and see if anyone's had any experience with this,
Many advance thanks, A |

Posted - 07/02/2006 : 11:54:15 I have a different experience with the sleep disturbance. I wake up 3-4 (or more) times a night parched. I keep bottles of water next to my bed to grab and sip. Usually two big gulps of water is enough to do me for at least another few hours. Sometimes I will down the whole bottle in one go without realizing. It feels like I am dying of thirst, my throat will be dry and my lips feel chapped. I often wondered if it meant I was drinking enough water during the day but I tried increasing my water intake during the day and it really didn't help. Then I wondered if it was due to the arthritis meds I was taking (I may still be demetobilizing some but have been off of most of them for several weeks now and no I don't feel any worse, in fact starting to feel somewhat better!). I really have no clue why I am so thirsty in my sleep and have to wake up and drink something every little bit. Any suggestions?

Posted - 07/01/2006 : 19:31:14 Hiya Art, I know how you feel...I have had episodes of waking up every couple of hours, all night long...And sometimes I will wake up after 2 hours of sleep and go watch TV (the infomercials, lol) and end up wide awake til 8AM in the morning or later...Then I would have to take a nap during the day which would only make the insomnia worse the next night..A vicious cycle, indeed...Here's what I do that seems to work.. 1) Never eat anything stimulation or drink alcohol for many hours b4 bed..both promote insomnia and sleep disturbances..even one glass of red wine will mess me up badly.. 2) Stay away from sugars or a big meal a couple of hours b4 bed and on the flip side don't go to sleep hungry even if it means just a banana..(which btw has natural tryptophan in it and helps one to sleep!) 3) Don't think about upsetting or emotionally charged subjects anytime close to bed....if you must have worry time, do it earlier in the day if you can 4) I take 2 calcium/magnisium citrate b4 bed (natural relaxant minerals) 5) There is a homeopathic remedy i use on really bad nights called "Calm Forte" you can get this in your local health food store... 6) I don't use melatonin because it's a hormone, but many swear by it..You can also get this at a health food store 7) Good ole Chamomile tea 8) Valerian root herb (natural relaxant again) Hope this helps~ |

Tie a leash to your ankle, like surfers use to keep from getting separated from their boards, and the other end to the bed. If your tired, take naps in the day-time.
I looked up hypo-glycemia in THE DIVIDED MIND, index and it is not mentioned, but anorexia and bulemia are. Wouldn't suprise me in the least if hypo-gly is another TMS equivalent. I'm the opposite, I like eating all the time. |
