A number of you have mentioned "Journaling". I would be interested in knowing how you go about it. Does a Journal have to be done in hand writing or have any of you typed your Journal.

What have you found to be the most effective?

I've used both writing and typing with equal results. I prefer typing not only because it's my right shoulder and arm that generally give me problems and they tend to hurt when i write, but because I can type much faster than I write. I can't keep up with my thoughts as much when I write. Just my $.02.

Typing into a computer is effective because it allows me to write, edit, review and manage journal entries. Also, my handwriting is terrible.

John Lee in his book on anger suggests hand writing using your using your left hand (or right if you are a 'lefty') to help to get into your emotions.

I have at least three different journaling styles -- free association; list making as described by Sarno; and more traditional diary-like entries for recording history. I find all three to be useful. Your mileage may vary.

IMO you should not put much thought into journaling. Just sit down and write the first thing that comes into your mind with no censorship, no editing, no holding back. Write, type, whatever you're most comfortable with. Let your mind loose, try to free associate from one topic to another without thinking about it. Let your thoughts lead you, not the other way around. You might be surprised what comes out.
