My story in a nutshell, I have had the TMS pain in my left leg (sciatic) 4 times over a 14-year period. The 1st time was as a college freshman, it became very severe and I went to all the doctors who could find nothing. After about 9 months it went away on it’s own. The next time was when I was 24, I went to the doctor who gave me an MRI and said it was the old bulging disc deal. I was in so much pain I couldn't stand up straight and walked hunched over everywhere stopping every 30 seconds. I went for the surgery and was fine afterwards. The next time was at age 30, the pain never got real bad and I just dealt with it and it went away in about 6 months. And now TMS is back again! Making it painful to walk and stand up straight. In between this episode and the last I saw the Sarno episode on 60 minutes and made a mental note that in case I ever have this pain I should read the book. Well I read it and TMS fits me perfectly. It's only been a week, but when will this pain go away. I haven't stopped running (it actually doesn't hurt when I run) or lifting weights, I'm even building a deck in my back yard on weekends and nights. But the pain continues, what am I doing wrong? I do believe, when people at work ask my what’s wrong with me (from my walk) I just tell them nothing, my repressed emotions are creating physical pain, it will go away soon. They of course look at me strange, but I jumped in the pool with both feet. I believe, and have even recommended the book to two others even though my pain is present. I wake up every morning hoping the pain will be gone….what is taking so long.

Hi TylerD,

There is no "time line". If you are looking for a quick fix you will not find one. Beating TMS is a process not an event.

I would suggest journaling and re-reading Sarno's books many times, and of course going thru the posts on this forum, you will find the answers to your questions. Yes, there are a lot but you dont have to read them all in an evening. You have plenty of time.

Use the search feature and read some of my past replies.

Here's one example: http://www.tmshelp.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1986

You have a good plan, do not stop any of your normal activities, proceed as normal.

You must un-learn your repression of anger and discover what hidden anger you have bottled up inside.

Take care, -Stryder
