Posted - 03/21/2006 : 23:17:30 Thanks for the info. Using the Slate link, I was able to get to this MSNBC article: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11904222/site/newsweek/ I'm not sure if this is complete Newsweek story or a condensed version. It's interesting, although it is more negative toward Freud than we would like.

Posted - 03/21/2006 : 19:32:33 I haven't read it, but here's a summary I found (http://www.slate.com/id/2138387/):
"The cover story uses the occasion of Sigmund Freud's 150th birthday to explore attitudes toward the father of modern psychoanalysis. A range of analysts and academics argue that most of his theories have been debunked as sexist and ill-gotten. But his contributions to language and culture are undeniable, according to the author. Freud is "the great engine of an ongoing middlebrow bull session that has engaged our culture for a century."—M.M. |
