Posted - 02/23/2006 : 06:35:24 Harriet Young and I are going to be giving a talk on our experiences of recovering from RSI through the principles in Dr. Sarno’s book (11.35 am, Room B):
http://www.londonrsisupportgroup.org.uk/index/page/meetings-meeting_item/id/40
It’s this Saturday, and it’s free.
If anyone wants to come along, either recovered or still on the way, you’d be most welcome. If you’re thinking of coming, drop me an email (so I can look out for you), or just turn up.
(Dave, I hope it’s OK to publicise this here – I’ve no commercial interest, and we’re not being paid for the talk.)

I'm glad that you're doing that. Making Dr. Sarno's books more available does help. Some people find out about him just by browsing through books at a store. The more stores that have the books, the better.

It is odd that they have Healing Back Pain, but not Mindbody Prescription. Perhaps, someone made an honest mistake in their computer records. It might be a good idea to forward your e-mail from healingbackpain.com to Waterstones, with an explanation that Waterstones gave you incorrect information about the book.

Posted - 02/27/2006 : 13:50:36 Yes, I had a reply from healingbackpain and they said it was in print. But a few months ago after a talk we gave last September someone told me she'd rung Waterstones and they'd told her then it was out of print. It sounds like someone there just doesn't like Sarno!
They did say they had copies of "Healing Back Pain", though, which is odd.

I looked up both the paperback and hardcover version of Mindbody Prescription on Amazon's UK site. It looks like they're both in print. It sounds like Waterstones was just making that up to get rid of you.

Posted - 02/25/2006 : 11:59:24 Thanks, everyone. The talk went well, and people seemed keen to try it. The only thing is, Waterstones, a major bookseller over here, had a stall at the event and I’d asked the organisers if they could ask Waterstones to have copies of “The Mindbody Prescription” on their stall for sale. (So people could buy it after the talk if they wanted.) They didn’t have it on their stall, and when Harriet asked them about it they said it’s out of print. I’ve just emailed healingbackpain.com to find out if that’s the case. I know the new book’s coming out soon, but I didn’t realise this one was out of print.
LastLostMonkey,
My experience with The Journey was a positive one. The book seemed to me to be saying exactly the same as Dr Sarno, but in a non-medical way.
I went to see a practitioner at a time when I was making no headway with my pain (2 months in) and I was at a “low” point, having lots of doubts and desperately in need of reassurance. (I didn’t know about this forum then.) I’d thought about psychotherapy but didn’t know how to find a therapist and was afraid of the cost. It was a couple of weeks after the Journey session that I did start to make noticeable progress. I’m completely cured of my RSI now.

It's great that you're doing this! Hopefully, more people who have been helped by Dr. Sarno will speak out about it. Let us know how it goes.

Posted - 02/24/2006 : 03:45:24 Yes, let us know and good luck. I hope some of them take the ideas on board. I am interested in the part of your story about the Journey practitioner. The more I read about these sorts of things, including the Louise Hay books, the more it seems like meditation, creative visualisation and related practices by another name. What was your experience of the sessions? Sorry, have gone off topic.

Posted - 02/23/2006 : 14:22:05 Hi LastLostMonkey,
It'll just be along the lines of my story here:
http://tmshelp.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1322
I'll also be adding tips such as the fact that the improvement may not be immediate, and for people to get help in the form of encouragement from others who have been through the process, or if the pain persists, to try psychotherapy.
Also that this approach is radically different, and that they have to be prepared to throw out a lot of preconceptions about their condition.

Posted - 02/23/2006 : 06:58:41 Hi Hilary,
I would really like to come but can't make it. If you have planned a talk would it be possible to post up the text so I can have a look, please?
