Posted - 01/29/2006 : 06:21:53 I couldn't help but put my two cents in about something. I have, at various times during the last year, written a few posts on this web site when I needed support during two pain relapses, as well as a 20 year battle with restless legs (which is a TMS equivalent, for sure). It was BECAUSE I considered myself a success story, that I thought that asking for help during a time of relapse would result in many words of encouragement. The exact opposite happened. I got very few replies, and one person said "you should be the one giving US advice". I want to make a suggestion that everyone on this site understand that TMS is something most of us will be dealing with in one form or another for our entire lives, and just because we might be "success stories" having overcome one form of TMS doesn't mean the symptoms in another form don't give us the same fear, doubt and pain as the newcomer. Unfortunately, I hesitate to keep posting because of the lack of response. There is nothing more isolating than to post a concern and not get a reply. That especially happened for me with regard to restless legs, which I ended up overcoming totally on my own, using Sarno's principles. But it was a very lonely road, especially because there is no literature on it being a TMS equivalent except from Dr. Sopher's book. We all need help to get out of fear, which as Sarno says, will ALWAYS perpetuate a symptom. Anyway, I think more people like myself would check in on this site if we felt more welcome when we did. That's just my opinion! Thanks Debby

Sorry that your did not get a timely reply to some of your posts. Three things to keep in mind.
Take care, -Stryder
(1) One of the good things about the forum here is that people tend to post when they have something of significance to say on the subject. Could be no one was on those days who had any experience with what you were discussing. Usually if a post goes unanswered someone will jump in if it hasn't been too busy that day and pushed a lot of posts onto Page 2.
(2) If you get a terse or a unsupportive reply try again and don't take it too seriously. This is a public place and for the most part people are quite considerate compared to a majority of the other forums on the net. The internet is anarchy.
(3) From the creator...

One other thing. This board is Dave's baby now; you would have to ask him what he thinks it is and where he thinks it is going. But when it was my board, I never, ever thought of it as being a "support" group where people get together to trade positive affirmations. It was always a place for discussion and, yes, argument on topics related to TMS. That also involved people helping people, which was good, but that was not all the board was about...

Maybe we should start an "occasional relapse" site.
Seriously, though, I feel as you do. I feel pain so very infrequently, but when I do, I could sure use some emotional support from someone who understands . . .

I'm sorry to hear that you felt so lonely and isolated here. I didn't respond to your restless leg postings because I've never had that symptom. I usually avoid such discussions. It had nothing to do with whether you had recovered or not.

Debby, don't take offence at that remark. I'm sure it was intended as a compliment to boost your confidence in yourself and ability to get better.

Posted - 01/29/2006 : 07:43:56 Hi,
Today, I discovered this site. Just listened to Dr. Sarno's CD's yesterday.......couldn't believe I think I have finally stumbled onto what a myriad of medical professionals have not been able to pinpoint for so long! Thus, I can see how support from others is vital! Probably most of the world will look upon this "discovery" as suspect at best, but I do believe I am finally on the track to getting better. Therefore, I wholeheartedly wish you the best through any setbacks you may encounter. Just to read of your success over the past 20 years, gives me so much hope. Good luck and hold on to the thougt that you will get better!
Take good care.

Posted - 01/29/2006 : 06:44:52 Hi Debby,
I'm sorry to hear that. I'm always keen to support people because that's what got me through. But sometimes there just isn't time to respond to all the posts I'd like to. (I already spend more time here than I probably should, given my own problems I'm going through at the moment.)
So if you don't get a response, it's not that we aren't thinking and sympathising with you. It's just lack of time and/or not knowing what to say that could be helpful.
All the best,
Hilary N |
