Hi
I have a question. I know that TMS is famous for changing locations. However, there is one thing that I am not completely clear on and it has become an issue. My primary TMS spot has been neck and shoulder pain. While it has gotten somewhat better,it is definitely not completely gone. Now I have been getting low back pain on and off. It seems to go away after a few days. My question is-do the symptoms usually go away completely in one area (neck) and then move on to another (low back), or can they sometimes occur simultaneously in both spots? I guess I am afraid that since I have pain in both spots at the same time that I must have done something to hurt my lower back, and the fears and panicy feelings are coming back. Should I ignore it and continue to exercise-or rest a couple of days. I think that I know the answer-but I need reassurance-R

As someone who was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, I certainly have had pain in multiple locations at once, and pain that moves to new locations while the old locations were still painful. Nowdays, I know that it's all TMS and it's all gone. It does tend to want to come back, but that's rare and usually doesn't last long.

Becca !

My symptoms are upper neck ... Sometimes when I feel particularly anxious . The pain goes between my shoulder blade, in my arm and in my butt !!! and after it disappear and come back just to the neck

if you experience moving pain, it can be sequentially or simultaneously !

Not only your brain is trying to distract you from repressed feelings , It does also try to jeopardize your acceptance of the TMS diagnosis at every minutes with different strategies... moving pain is one of them

IF you believe you have TMS,

keep the faith,
keep the faith,
KEep the faith

despite any CHANGE

This is the most important !!!!

Hey Becca. TMS can do just about anything it feels like doing. Sharp pain, dull pain, panic attacks, ibs, migranes, etc. all together or by themselves at any time , any place. Don't forget numbness and of course bad skin! ANYTHING AT ANY TIME. It is all the same thing, your mind trying to distract you anyway it can. Just lump it all together and treat it the same. Try not to dwell on the symptoms to seperate them. Just accept them and go on about your business. Do what you are comfortable doing. Don't try to stress yourself. Just concentrate on what you need to do today instead of what you feel you will be able to do. I know it is hard to believe now, but soon you won't give your pains a second thought. Treating tms is an ongoing process, kinda like breathing. When you become adept at it, your symptoms will weaken to the point that you won't even notice them and on most days you will be symptom free. Try to relax a little and quit measuring.

we you say you don't rest anything anymore........do you mean muscle injuries(for example: if you pulled your hamstring you wouldn't rest it)
what do you tell yourself when you feel the pain?

I get pain in more than one place all the time. Even before I had heard about TMS, my symptoms were in a lot of different places. They all started going away slowly, but then one will come back while another one is still there. I still have tailbone pain and elbow pain together. but they are much less.

I was stuck on that point too for awhile cause I never just had it in one place. But if fibro is considered TMS (and they have it in lots of different places) then it stands to reason that it can attack more than one place.

I don't rest anything anymore, especially if I have an episode, that just makes me more active.
