Hello, Im still dealing with pain form my back injury. Its been 5 months, I first heard of sarno back about 2 months ago. I was siked about his diagnosis. Im the beginning I went to pt twice. felt better but over did it a couple times and woke up not being able to walk and having hips all crooked.. well after time my sister kept telling me .. you need to go to the chiropractor. I started thinking my back was out of place. and it reinforced the fear of the physical and I have been going for 2 weeks , He says the 2 disc bulges are causing the pain. well after 6 adjustments I feel no different. Also he says I have functional scoliosis, I have never had a curve in my spine , he says my back in compisating for the injury and he can get it back to normal.....These people are freaking me out! is my back gonna go into a half moon without this guy now????

I want to commit to sarno's diagnosis. The evidence is almost clear to me that it is what is causing the pain. I cant stop thinking of that pain I had when I lifted that tractor , The spasm's were intense. then the mri telling me ddd, bulged l4 l5 s1. I got to admit i watch sarno's lecture everynight. I like to watch it cause it makes me feel normal. Medical profession does 0. they want you to think your disabled. my chiro wants me to come to him for 3 visists a week for at least 6 weeks. I dont buy it. Im not being physical cause the pain gets pretty bad after about 20 mins of standing . so I go lay down for a while and do it again.

I was wondering if any of you cold tell me if you have been in my shoes. I need a push, thanks

Ok, let me tell you about myself.

I injured my back around 10 years ago. Horrible back spasms, I was seeing a doctor, chiropractor, masseuse, taking muscle relaxers and I would get temporary relief and that's it.

I switched chiropractors, to one who showed me my x-rays - I've always been told that I have a 'mild' curve of scoliosis. Well, it wasn't "Mild" at all, it was more "Moderate". And he attributed my pain to this.

I saw him a few years, but I didn't get rid of the pain until I met my husband and was working out consistently. I stopped seeing the chiropractor and the pain went away!

Now keep in mind - I had that curve in my back for my whole life and had no problems with back pain until I injured it. I know what brought on my pain (relationship breakup), and I fully believe Dr. Sarno's explanation of TMS.

I had no problems with my back for the last 3 years until the last few months when I've been having some financial difficulties and work overloads.

So I know what's going on, and I believe fully that it's TMS. When my back will hurt for no reason for a few hours and then not hurt at all... Or weird sore throats in the morning, hand pain once a week... No question in my mind. I just need to banish this mess from my life.

Yes,yes,yes, Anxo69 - I've been in your yours shoes!

Chiropractor - my boss said I needed to see her one. Chiro said that I'd need adjusting probably for the rest of my life - or else!

Couldn't stop obsessing about the original episode of excruciating pain - that obsessing caused escalating anxiety, depression and, I'm sure, leading to the pain becoming chronic.

Yes - I was encouraged to think that I had a disability for which there was no cure - not just the chiro - three physiotherapists, two back specialists, fellow back pain sufferers, books, newspaper articles etc, etc.

They were all wrong - Dr Sarno was right - ny fellow back pain sufferers are still suffering and guess what? My back is fine.

This all took time, by the way, it didn't happen overnight - but it did happen.

I'd put money on my story being fairly typical of lots of people who post here as well.

All good wishes and, I hope, a big push.

Hi
I definitely know how you feel. I have neck and shoulder pain and was diagnosed with a c5-6 bulging disc. I did the PT thing, wasted hundreds of dollars on the Chiro (in fact had to take out extra student loans to cover it). No relief at all. since reading Sarno I have paid attention to my syptoms. The only variable that I can identify that ever makes my pain worse is emotional distress.
I am a nurse anesthetist, so I have an even harder than most refuting structural diagnoses. ( I always feel more neck pain when I have to manage a back surgery case). So I did what any good student of science does-looke thru medical journals. I found MANY studies that found that anywhere between 30-70% of asymptomatic people had bulging discs. Other studies found that psychological distress was teh only factor that correlated with back pain. MRI abnormalities did not.
Another thing to keep thinking of-and Sarno talks about this as well-the human back and human body are not weak. we are built sturdy, designed to do physical labor. medicine has us convinced that we are fragile. Even if we did injure a disc or pull a muscle-the human body can and will heal.
I still am having pain, but it is slowly ( very, very slowly) begining to improve. Hope this helps
