Who can comment on proper breathing? Can terrible
breathing habits be part of TMS symptoms?

EXACTLY I will look at your Facing the fire guy I am just amazed
that it took me until now to realise that I stop breathing. The why
on the side for now Being aware and BALANCE BREATHING has given me such immediate relief on a variety of fronts I am flabbergasted.
I breath deeply in my car, when at the computer in bed when ever it enters my head. After doing proper breathing my tight muscled legs are totally relaxed and without pain. God only knows wher it came from
in past trauma but now I know how to relax and feel better. When my legs get tight I will immediately know that I have not bee breathing properly. I start and calm down immediately Constant breatthing awareness and living in the present will be major steps for me

The statement was "The specifics of past trauma do not matter according to my shrink". This means that the specifics of past trauma don't matter, but not that past trauma itself if irrelevant. Often times the specifics aren't what matters. When we are "bracing" our bodies to prevent repressed emotions from coming out, we tend not 'breathe through' the way we should. When the fight or flight response to stress in "on", your breathing is clearly affected.

Many like myself find that we hold our breath, this causes muscle tension. I catch myself doing it periodically and have to practice breathing in order to relax. It is definitely part of TMS, there is no doubt in my mind. I don't really know why it happens, but I have found that anger release work a la John Lee "Facing the Fire" has helped me to stop this bad habit.

Just assume your shrink is wrong and try applying the TMS treatment on your condition anyways, then see how you improve. What do you have to lose?

THE TRAUMA MATTERS VERY MUCH THE SPECIFIC DETAILS DO NOT

I don't believe what your shrink said. I can't prove what he said is wrong but it just doesn't make sense that past trauma does not have an effect on breathing. I remember Bradshaw directly saying that holding your breath is a way to squash feelings and repress them. That is one reason why most meditations start off with noticing and slowing down and deapening your breathing to connect with the feelings.

When I did a lot of computer work I would often catch myself short breathing. I think this was just a learned response to stress that has been built into me from the get go.

I find I hold my breath or breathe short choppy quick breaths.
Deep diaphram breathing relaxes my tightening muscles. Meditation and deep breathing relaxes everyone. Google "proper breathing" and you find a ton of stuff on it as therapy for anx and tension.
I just noticed it as I walked a Wal Mart and the crowd made my legs start to tighten. Deep breathing calmed them down. Dr Weil claims stress directly influences breathing and vice versa.
Tight breathing , tight body, tight muscles that HURT
Learn how to breathe and LIVE IN THE PRESENT. The specifics
of past trauma do not matter according to my shrink.

can you be more specific? What do you mean by "proper breathing?" Can you link this to anything that is taking place in your life?
