Dr. Sarno gives credit to Dr. Pert in one or more of his books for her research on mindbody medicine. I purchased one of her books (on tape),Your Body is your Subconscious Mind, in an effort to learn even more about how the Mindbody works, and therefore what could be causing my intense pain.

I was shocked to hear her say something that was in complete contrast to Dr. Sarno's theory. She said that she believes that the "molecules of emotion", travel throughout the body, and can get stuck. She said she is a big fan of bodywork. I'm not quoting directly, but she said something like the right chiropractic move can be better than years of talk therapy in terms of releasing unconscious emotions.

She, like Dr. Sarno, believes that emotions can be a major cause of symptoms, but she advocates bodywork, not as a way to improve a physical abnormality, but to uncover stuck, undigested emotions.

Any thoughts?

I’ve read Candace Pert’s book Molecules of Emotions after seeing it referenced several place, including Sarno.

Most of her book is about her work as a research scientist which led her to discover that there is presence of disease both in the brain
and in a diseased organ at the cellular level, like a hologram. Its a good read with a lot of personality.

Pert’s work has drawn her to conclude that the mindbody is one being and manifests accordingly if we don't keep things cleared. If I remember, she now believes that we should do bodywork to release emotions. Reminds me of John Lee’s Facing the Fire, acting out our anger and rage.

And DO emotional work to release body/physical ailments. For me its this second statement that is consistent with Sarno. Sarno doesn’t push for healing emotions, he says becoming aware and expressing our emotions is enough for physical healing.

Also like Sarno, much of the medical community won't listen to her work because it doesn't align with the current thinking.

Hi Goodguy - I was intrigued by Dr. Pert's book titles. After skimming "Molecules of Emotions" at the book store and reading some reviews on Amazon, I quickly became turned off by her "new age" slant. I try to be opened minded about things, but the idea of a chiropractor cracking away your hindered emotions is too "out there" for me.
