I feel that one of the things that contributes to my pool of repressed emotions is all of the changes that have occurred since 9/11 and was wondering if anyone else feels this way. Almost two year later, I still have trouble wrapping my brain around that sort of evil and so many things that have happened in the aftermath are also hard to deal with. I was living just outside of NYC at the time and for quite some time afterwards, I just felt really scared - often irrationally so - like worrying everytime I went into a mall that there would be an attack. I was also living near the nuclear power plant (which I hadn't even known before 9/11!) and was all of a sudden bombarded with notices of where my children would be evacuated to in the event of an attack there, where to go to get my iodine pills, etc etc. I became obsessed with the media and as we all know, the media throws one terrifying scenario at us after another. Since you just cannot carry on daily life like this you have no choice but to ignore the emotions - and as all users of this board know, that is just asking for trouble if you are TMS-prone.

Carolyn,

You might want to read the book "The Culture of Fear: Why Americans Are Afraid of the Wrong Things" by Barry Glassner". I don't agree with everything the author claims, but he did help me create a new perspective. I would say the same thing about Michael Moore's movie "Bowling for Columbine", I am not a left extremist like Moore is but he does raise some good points.
